Cup radiator same as all 1*2's?

  172 cup TT
Ello - As per title really...

I've kinda bent a load of the fins on the inside of my 172 cup rad, and proper screwed it!... Need a replacement and just want to know if ALL 172 / 182 radiators are the same - im guessing they are just so it makes my search at the scrappies a bit easier...

Many thanks
David

Bloody hell! thanks chap... Didnt realise rads were so cheap!.. Was going to go down the 2nd hand route and thought they'd be about £50, but according to the site they are £72!... (http://www.car-radiators.org.uk/?gclid=CLXz99jY5pECFSXVXgodrjovXg)

Yeah I noticed the price to and as I am in need of one I am very tempted to supply the rad myself instead of getting the garage to do so but not sure who makes these rads and if they are any good. I was just wondering if the rads were the same myself and came across that site with that drawing.

ring renault with my old reg

x311 dnb (thats a 172 with aircon) and ask for a water rad and get the part NO

and then ring with your reg and get the part number.. see if there the same!

Cheers Ben will do fella.. ta...

Are Water rads on AC equipped cars(yours) exactly the same as Non-AC'd motors(mine)?..

  Lots of Alfas
As fred said Im sure they are different but irrc it doesnt matter as they will both fit. The normal 172 one was designed to have the air con rad bolted onto it.

Ah that makes sense Dave cheers... the only other difference if that is true is that the "172" one is over 3cms taller than the 1.6 dynamique.... hmm.... (going via the diagrams on the site above)

If you look in the column to do with air con the answer is yes/no for the rad shown for the 2.0l so i don't think it matters if you fit the rad without connecting up the air con that you don't have surely?

  172 cup TT
Thats what ive thought - but if that was the case why have a couple of people (with fairly decent reps on here!) suggested a totally different, squatter, 1.6 Dynamique rad... doesnt make sense to me... but surely the likes of fred are right..

  Lionel Richie
part numbers are the same, but i ordered one for a 172cup and the fan wouldn't fit to it (different brackets and stuff)

i'm 99.9% sure its the same as a 1.6 dynamique with aircon, ring yoz he knows more about it than me

Cheers chap - yep i'll give Yoz a call later..

So what did you do about the one where the fan wouldnt fit? modified the brackets?.. One final thing fred, even though my cup has no AC you keep recommending the one six Dynamique ***WITH*** AC - thats correct yeh??

  172 cup TT
Right!, after a weekend of research on this bloody issue im going to order the 172 and NOT the 1.6 dynamique rad from the site above....

My reasoning is this :
- Called renault and gave the reg of Ben_P's 172 to get his radiator part number.. it was 7700417175 new OR 7701352903 for an exchange unit
- Then called up again with my reg and the radiators and part numbers on both cars were EXACTLY the same. I asked them to double check and nope, the same.
- I asked them (and 2 other reno dealers) just to check about needing the 1.6dynamique rad for my cup and after being on hold for a while no one had heard of that (obviously im taking what reno say with a pinch of salt but it does no harm to ask)..
- I then called the rad website people (above) and they also linked the standard 172 rad to my car reg too and advised totally against the dynamique rad :(
- Spoke with Yoz (very helpful by the way thanks) and annoyingly he was certain its a dynamique rad i needed!!!.. argh... he kindly have me the part number for the rad and i was given 7700417175 which confusingly is the part number for a standard 172 rad?!!(same as above).. eh. So sod it, after all of that i'm just going to order the 172 rad and sod it.. it can be returned anyway if it doesnt fit..

Thanks all for the contributions, especially Ben_P for the reg num.

Dave

Thats ridiculous... typical renault, will keep you updated anyway.. As the cups get older this is going to be more a common question.
