Cup rev limiter

  BMW 123d/Rover Metro
I'm new to the Clio scene and i just wondered if its normal for my 172 to limit at slightly different times in different gears?

The car is completely standard and i always let it get upto its proper operating temp before streching its legs :D

yes it is mate, 7250 in the first 2 gears, then 7000 in the further 3.

It will limit at circa 6500 when cold.

hhmmm, well i always let it get upto half temp yet still it limits at 6500rpm in second. Does this indicate a problem, or it it still just not warm enough? Any idea how much driving time is needed to get the car to the correct temp?

Cheers.

its not the water temp its the oil temp that needs to be up to temp before it will allow it to rev to the full limiter

Takes a good 10-15s driving before the higher limiter to come in, my 7 mile driver to work it's still not up to temp.

Its normal.

Mine takes a good few minutes before the higher limit kicks in. Well after temp gauge appears to be up to temp.

It is triggered from water temp though as there is no oil temp sensor as std.

workshop manual (Renault) says lower limiter in the upper gears and cold limiter is based on water temperature.
