Cup Weight Saving

if the cup is a special hardcore track focused why does it still come with fog lights surly its would save more weight removeing them :S

Re: cup weight saveing

good point, i supose they had to have a cutoff point to keep it as a car that can be used as a dialy driver rather than an all out track car

Re: cup weight saveing

There is loads you could do to get them lighter, like the rear wiper & mechanism, could be 2-3 kg's there, alot of cars dont come with rear wipers any way! aslo things like sound deadning material & rear door card speakers, all added weight & could still live with out them

Re: cup weight saveing

i was just wondering foglights arent excatly a nessary thing on a car it just seems like they missed a trick unless the extra weight helps keep the nose in

Re: cup weight saveing

I seem to recall early press shots of a 197 Cup with no fog lights and then another with them fitted (both images released at the same time). Maybe they realised it would cost them more to fit the car without front fogs than with them?

rear wiper mechanism weighs a kilo if your lucky - i was dissapointed with the weight save when i removed mine. would have saved more by not eating them chips last night!

Nah, Renault just had a surplus of foglights.

Handy on foggy track days!

1kg may not be much, but if you can find 10 little 1kg weight savings, that's 10kg! That's getting on towards 2stone! It all adds up :)

a 172 cup is reportedly 80kgs lighter and 0.4 secs to 60 quicker than a FF

shed weight = faster car

that's why a 500kg kitcar with a 140bhp engine is stupidly quick

Re: cup weight saveing

Does that mean that every Cup owner is on a strict diet of Ryvita and Special K with skimmed milk?

I obviously prefer a few extras on my car and don't do track days so i wouldn't understand but to me removing things like the rear wiper motor and fog lights just seems a little extreme when you have to use the car everyday too.

Do you all keep the washer reservoir empty, the oil and power steering fluid on minimum, the fuel on the red light and have a cr*p before you get on the track too?

Don't forget to shave your head, trim your nose hair and blow your nose too! lol

No, it means i can be a fatty, and my car is still as quick as a FF! LOL

Did you know a litre of water weighs 1 kg?

Do you all keep the...power steering fluid on minimum...?

Nope, just binned it for a manual rack, far easier.

all the soundproofing weighs 20kgs - i know, i took it out weighd it, and threw it away lol

Really? Where from?

Yours is a 172 Cup?

They never had soundproofing fitted...that was part of the 89kgs saving over the normal 172.

Have I missed taking something off?

For the record, fog lights probably total 600-800g max for the pair...only reason I removed mine was to get more air to the brakes.

Also, LOL at having foglights being essential to make a car usable everyday - when was the last time you drove in fog so thick you couldn't see the next lamp post?

Re: cup weight saveing

20kg on sound deadning  , where the f**k is all that lol, any one got any diagrams of its where abouts? i assume the bit in the boot, under the rear seats & under the pasenger & drivers foot well? that s**t is coming out! i remeber reading that its a b**ch to remove though

Could any one tell me where renault managed to loose 80+kg's on the cup?

Re: cup weight saveing

Wheels, aircon, ABS, sound proofing, glass, side airbags, no centre rear seatbelt, no rear seat split, no spare wheel.

That's about it I think.

Come to think of it...where are all the luxuries people can't live without that were removed?

;)

Re: cup weight saveing

So in theory, bare with me lol, i have the turini's, plan to remove the sound deadning & spare wheel & tool kit to replacd with a can of tyre weld in the event of one of the family to come pick me up the spare wheel from the shed if it can not be repaired i should see around 40-50kg of weight gone?

Hmmm then lighter seats.. gotta keep the air con & xenons, yes i'm a tart before any one says FF's are for girls :rasp:

Also whats the deal with light weight batterys, heard you can pick up daily road use ones that weigh under 10kgs compared to the 20+ standard weight?

More often than you obviously, it's a whole different world down in deepest, darkest Devon :)

Just so you know, i'm not trying to be a c*nt, i'm just amazed by the Cup culture and fancied a bit of a laugh with you all.

Re: cup weight saveing

Sound deadening is under the carpet.

All the way from the front seats all up the dash. Its like brown rubber lined sound deadening.

Re: cup weight saveing

Whats the best way to remove the carpets? will they go back happily after the deadning is removed? any one got any pics of the stuff on the front floor/dash, do remeber seeing some brown shite under the dash when i was oiling my clutch cable, i assume thats the stuff then?

Re: cup weight saveing

theres loads of weight in the brown rubber lined stuff behind the dash.

but its only worth removing if you are taking the dash out for another reason... whole thing has to come off

This was a 182 - none of that tar stuff was fitted to my Cup at all. I think Jay said he took about 10kgs out of his doing this.

Re: cup weight saveing

^^ FMP's was a 172, my 182 had the tar, i did weigh it after i took it all out and i make it to be about 10kg's no where near 20kg's

yes it's a proper cup. it has less sound proofing. look under your carpets, you will find it. look under your bonnet, the black carpet stuff is also sound proofing. the tar stuff is like dynamat, it stops the panels vibrating and resonating

I find it funny when folk have road cars, they strip everything but the drivers seat then add 50kg's worth of roll cage :clown:
