This was an advisory on my last MOT. Surely it should have failed?

More progress pics to follow...

they don't fail on corrosion, as long as the braking ability is enough it will still pass!
stupid i know right?

When you see the picture then yes! However, I haven't actually noticed that the braking being anything other than good. Should be superb with the new ones.

Beans on toast finished, back to the job.

I've been told mine look like that. They vibrate under heavy braking as well. Meh, I'll get round to changing them eventually.

This little fail happened though. Makes a funny noise under braking and has scored the disc lightly. Any ideas?

Pads normally have a bedding in material in them, like Turbo Tom says prob just a spot of hard compound. Keep an eye on them.

a stone isnt stuck in there is it?

have you tried a spirited run and given the brakes a bit of a prodding?

Good job, just give it another day.
If its getting worse take off and have a look, it only takes ten mins.

Nope it came in last year iirc, as long as they work to the correct standards they will pass fine, all they can do is give you an advisory

That's kind of what I meant, so they will fail them if they don't work.

I'll give them another inspection today.

Inspection complete, and I think I've fixed it. The little metal slider insert bit was touching the disc, so I guess that could have done some damage over time. Not 100% sure I've fixed it but I'll drive it for a bit and assess.

Mandatory pic since its the Media section. Better views of the problem + new discs with the wheels off :) :
