cv boot won't marry up up to gearbox flange?

Just looking closer at some pictures of one of my old genuine shafts that s**t itself...

It seems Renault just used a boot with a flat section to overcome the problem anyway?!

Compared to the J&R shaft with a traditional type boot causing the issue...

^^ Not my photo

There isn't much in the gap...

@bloke there is no real way to swap the boot is there? Perhaps sending the shaft to the people who recondition them to fit the correct boot and it's still a money saver over Renault ones

Fair enough, was only responding to your questions/long post.

We only had a real answer about these shafts on the N/S from imprezaworks car, no evidence of the drivers side one that I could find since an apparent design change. It was a gamble, but back to square one, unless you get hold of the correct CV Boot and job done for cheap.

Cannot find anyone other than Renault that sell new O/S shafts for the Cup

Shaftec have 172 cup available R209AL left 657mm long & R209AR right 740mm long,with no support bearing.
Same as some scenic & megannes.
I paid £72 ic VAT for my RH PH (R518AR) at my local branch of Andrew Page. The one`s on eBay are priced a bit more than that..
I have had it a year,10K miles with no problems.

With reference to copper based grease. It should not be used on any moving parts at all as it is abrasive.
It is to stop bolts, nuts, spacers & motorcycle wheel spindles etc from seizing up with corrosion & is highly effective.

It`s shame J&R have not addressed this gaitor problem.I assume someone has told them about it.

  dan's cast offs.

that's single piece shaft so no issue with it catching on the lug on the block.

Or a quick measure up and I'm sure we can find an alternative option.

Sorry,my error. Thanks for pointing that out,I was rushing it.

You are correct the one piece 172 cup shafts DS20/21 will not suffer from snagging the block.

To honest,if anyone needs a non cup ph2 RH shaft, just pay the £72 for a shaftec R218AR rather than messing around trying to correct the J&R shaft.

J&R would seem to have tens of thousands of satisfied customers, but have a problem with this specific shaft.

could offer a solution if you already have a J&R shaft with a damaged rh inner boot, but otherwise sound.

Just in case anyone read through this.
DO NOT APPLY TO MOVING PARTS.
