cv boot

  megane 225
right, having a right argument with renault over this and extended warranty, MOT etc.
How hard is it to replace?
The clip has snapped and have just replaced with a cable tie for now, is there any other temp fix? or how easy is it to change the whole thing?
Regards
ohh its on a 2003 mk2 172

Its not a hard job. Has the boot split or not? if its just the tie that has snapped, repack it with CV grease and put on a proper metal jubilee clip to secure it. Job done

  Lots of Alfas
As above, dont use the Renault clips they have to be put on by a special tool and fall apart anyway. Pack with driveshaft grease and get a good strong metal clip to hold it on. Plastic ties wont last long, they wont hold it tight enough and grease will seap through, especially if you do track days.

they are dead easy to fit, renaults use plastic gaiters, theres a tool to compress the metal clip up tight enough to hold it on, whenever i do them i use stretch gaiters (still remove the joint) just because they are so much less hassle to seal up.

yeh the bloke and renault went on about this special tool, i was kind of like ohh right is that why you want £180?
Ive got a cv boot kit ordered for £12 but im thinking along the lines of small jubilee clip and like you all rightly said, re-pack it!!!
PS its not split, just the dam clip has become buggered (for want of a better word lol)

Thats was my local CAS said about, a 'universal' stretch cv boot kit for £9
Sounds like a job for after work lol

Pretty common problem the clips snapping on the gaitor . Both mine snapped on my 172 . When i bought my 182 as soon as i got it home i put 10mm cable ties over the clips to hopefully stop it happening again .

funny you should say that, im on extended warranty, and the warranty company said it is, but my local renault dealer wont have it.
It also had an MOT 2 months ago, and a 25 point inspection by renault last week and it was not picked up on

you can get heavy duty clips for cv boots, i had 2 split on me i ended up replacing both sides the final time with rubber ones and heavy duty clips havent had a problem since
