D.I.Y in-dash monitor

have been wantin to fit a monitor in my 182 for a while now but couldnt think where to put it.

then i wondered if i would beable to buy the plastic display housing for the renault colour sat nav from a renault dealer, and then buy a cheap monitor off ebay to place in it, ok i would lose my clock and temp readout but i can live with that. Couple the monitor with a dvd head unit, then i can watch and listen to queens greatest hits volume 1 in the car!!

Would this look the dogs bollox or am....i......slowly.......losing.............it?

for starters the display housing are tiny, and you would have to bodge the hell out of it to make it hold a descent size screen. You can get small tfts if thats what you mean, but i would be more inclined to make a fibreglass pod to fit in that gap and blend it in as oem as possible,

How about placing it where the cup holders/ash tray are, fibreglass something there so it tilts a little more towards the driver, get a nice touch screen monitor. And hey presto, nice little screen install.

i did think one day (and yes it did hurt!) but to have a fold up screen in the dash where the little dent is up the top

so it folds flat into the dash when not using it

The top dash for the renault sat nav is about £300 a few of us have looked into doing it but its too expensive for what it is.

£300 for a bit of plastic? the robbing gits, they would only cost renault pennies to make.

have you seen how many different types of monitors for sale on ebay and how cheap they are?

Renault wont sell you the middle bit of plastic seperate from the whole top dash which costs £300ish.

When buying them off ebay just be careful that its not being shipped from China or Hong Kong (like all those youve listed) cos you end up paying another £40 (minimum) in import tax.

cheers pete, didnt see those sneaky taxes,

if i put a monitor where the cup holders are i think the gearstick would get in the way of me view.

the more i think about it, the more i think it would just be a gadget that i would soon get sick of.
