you wouldn't notice the difference but 'id argue that it would probably be the 2.8...but then i think it would depend on what your doing with it.

i wouldnt go for either get a pentium d805 only a 2.8 dual core but can over clock to 4.1gig (about 3.7 withou fancy cooling) making it the faster than the extreme editions ;)

my mates ht machine ran fm2005 like a dream, even though mine was a similar spec.

so id guess ht makes a fair bit of difference

got the new cpu, ben trying to get a bleedin photo of it all weekend but the writing is way way to small.

"intel confidential" stamped on the top and a helluva lot of test docu's. benchmarks to follow once the new RAM arrives, haven't got a damn scooby what it is :p 775set and the test date seems to cover Intel Extreme Edition Dual Cores @ the 3.5->3.7 range

i ended up buying the P4 3.0 800fsb 1MB cache with Hyper Threading got it for 60 delivered, i forgot about one i was watching on ebay the exact same cpu and it went for 42 quid, what a steal!

Lots of rebrands on ebay, i.e 2ghz rebranded to 3ghz..

I have the article (pcpro) at home, i will scan it in when i get home.

Haven't heard of it but i guess its possible seeming as though the multiplier is unlocked on prescott cores and standard chips will do a fair bit over their standard rating. e.g. my 3.2 is at 4.2 ghz, thats with water cooling though.

I don't rate the dual core chips. I've tried about 25 at work through different machines and they all overclocked poorly and gave no real performance gain for just a single workstation. Useful in a server environment though.

The 2.8ghz dual core now is known for being a bit of a monster overclocker though well now it is.

And multithreaded apps are starting to become a bit more normal now. Few of the latest games support dual cores. Oblivion is one of them.
