Damn Clutch pedal damn! damn! damn!

  clio williams, Ph1 172

lol.

Wonderin if anyone can help me. Since ive had my clio Ive had two new clutch cables. the last time they said its cos of the pedal was dodgy on the early ones so I got a whole new pedal assembly.

Today my pedal kept clickin down when i pushed it every so often. thought id snapped another cable but i pumped it and it corrected itself. was ol for a bit then started doing it again. Keeps doin it. But seems to have got worse.

When I push it doen when its stood it never does it but as soon as i drive it it starts again. Anyone got any idea? doin my head in big time!!

I know mate. I had a bill for like over £100 for a new pedal assembly fitted etc. fittin the cables harder than a clutch!!!its not snapped cos itll still engage but if you push it fast it like slips on the ratchet. mad!

Well I have to say I find the early pedals to work the best. After 180k on my early so called evil pedal the cables snapped once in 12 years.

Anyway get a new pedal, 15 quid from ren. Easy enough to fit, if I must I can write a guide.

Righty, get in car drive to garage... only kidding.

Shove drivers seat right back. Pul the cable off of the release fork on the box.

In footwell remove the cable from the pedal. Pull the spring clip off of the pivot on the clutch pedal side, along with the 2 washers, 1 wavy and 1 solid. On the brake pedal side reach up and squeeze the spring clip then keeping the clip squeezed pull the shaft towards the door till the spring clips clear.

Now you can pull the clutch pedal off.

Then refitting.

You will have fun holding the bushes in the pedal against the ratchets spring tensions then slide it back on the shaft and sove it back in then put the washers and clip back on. Then the cable at the pedal then the box and thats you.

If thats a bit vague then tell me where.

My old car done that, kept getting a bit worse, one day it went to the floor and didnt come back up for a couple seconds, dont know how to fix it, i wrote the car off!

If its the same problem i had it isnt the cable at fault.

Does it sometimes loose tension untill u press it down further then it catches tension again?

Underneath ur heat shield in ur engine bay there is a plate to cover the cables near drivers side on the bulkhead. Jus take it off as the cable catches on its edge as it streches with use i think. Anyway take it off and chuck it as ir serves no purpose. Re-fit ur heatshield and bingo. ;)

If that doesnt work its a new pedal assemble again me thinks. Greese could help too.
