***DASH DISMANTLING***

i have a std 1.2 clio at the mo and i was going to try and get a s/h replacement dash from a valver so i could have the oil pressure gages, revometer etc but will it all actually all work once fitted and has anybody else done this and if so how hard is it????

If you have the required sender units installed in your engine then there will not be a problem, its just a case of connecting the dial to the right unit. Problem is, i doubt your car will. If your RN has a rev counter then you can connect a new one no problem. You can fit your own sender units, but its not all that easy. My mate fitted them to his mini, but there is an age in technology between a mini engine and a modern computer controlled unit. Pluss its french there will be bolts/nuts that you cant get a rachet over and star screws everywhere. This is not forgetting the pointless bits of metal pointing out to scrape your hands on or just getting in your way.

So to sumerise, yes its easy if you have got the knowledge or the sender units already installed.

k, cheers, probably give that 1 a miss then as its a phase 1 and hasnt got a rev counter on atm so i assume it would be a bit of a b*****d of a job, pressure gages would look nice cosmetic wise though, might just do that and leave em unconnected...

mate i have a phase 1 rl and i have 16v dials fitted.

the rev counter does work as the wiring loom is exactly the same and even has the plug on the end of it so it fits in, its just sellotaped up. Renault to save money jus put the same wiring loom in all the cars.

the three gauges in the middle are a different point tho. they wont work unless u wire them up or if u wanna make them look like they work wire them up to the 12v switch so wen u turn ur engine on the dials come on. they wont go up and down but u get the illusion they work.

if i remeber rightly only one dial on the main set doesnt work and i think its oil pressure or temp or somethin like that!!!

yeah i got em to work with the rl but didnt like it now mine come on with brakes and handbrake and full beam

i got the idea from phill99 or smbailey canny remember???? but i worked the wiring out for myself

its easy mate just work it out! car battery 2 wires and mess about with the connections!!

yes m8.

Going from your car Jack, if u want the tacho u can just swap the pannel over and it will work straight away.

In mine u cant, but thats another story.

Ive got the oil pods in mine, bit they are wired to something else - bit cosmetic, but looks good at night.

Got the far left dial (oil level IIRC) wired to the handbrake light on the pannel, so when handbrake is either up or down, so is the needle.

The other 2 are wired to the rear brake light bulb, so when im travelling along and hit the brakes, both needles shoot up. Then slowly fall back down when brakes are released.

Sounds stupid, but trust me, its good hehe :)

sounds good! well when i get round to it i might have to ask you for some instructions. thanks for everyones help! jack.
