Dashcams good/ bad

  Civic type r fk8
To me the majority of dashcams are for wannabe police/ people who have nothing better to do than report people for nowt.I can see the point of them sometimes but most times there invading my privacy
Let's have your opinions

How much privacy are you expecting to have driving around in a box of which all four sides are partially made of glass?

They have their place and I can see the benefits. Certainly a lot of videos on YouTube and the like appear to have been fitted by people who have some form of God complex whilst at the same time driving just as bad as the people they're filming.

Invading your privacy, how?
Reporting you for silly things, the same could be said for mobile phones when i was a kid you could go on Waste ground anywhere on motorbikes and be left alone ,now people just can't keep there noses out and either film you or straight on the phone to the police.

I can understand where the OP is coming from with this tbh. There are far too many people now with dashcams who are simply out to try and be some shite vigilante and catch people who do the tiniest thing wrong on the roads.

That being said, they absolutely have their place in genuine incidents and can prove invaluable at times.

I tend not to worry about the above types any more though. The police don't have the resources to go investigating everyone's bad driving habits and I'm pretty sure if they went crying to the police going "look what the bad man did to me!" they'll just get laughed at.

I think I want one tbh. Some dick almost had me in a RS7 the other day trying to cut in as the mway goes 4 lanes to 3.

Anyone recommend a cheapy one?

If you're not driving like a tool on the road then there's no need to worry about other people having them, and one day their footage could be invaluable if you are involved in an accident which is disputed. I only see them as a good thing on UK roads which are getting worse and worse with the behaviour of drivers.

I've had them in all my cars for years and even used footage in a dispute of an accident.

I have one, i couldn't care less about posting videos of people cutting me up, running through red lights etc... People's bad driving are their own problem..

However if one day a driver smashes into me, the cam may come in handy... Or if i run out of talent down a country lane and bin my car in a ditch it will provide my friends abit of a laugh if i post the video online.

I hope my dash cam is never needed to record an accident i am involved in, but you never know... It may settle a claim.

I've used the Novatek A119 for years (3 cameras in total), its a fit and leave unit and has served us very well for <£50

Pretty much summed up exactly what I was going to say.

There's a dash cam thread on here somewhere dude with loads of suggestions. Most people tend to go for the Mobius for the overall package of reliability, image quality, price etc.

From what I've seen dashcams are wielded by the kind of c**t who really can't drive. Usually an absolute flannel in a Vauxhall Agila doing 20/40 mph everywhere with no lane discipline and loves a bit of racing lines on a roundabout.

Our privacy is getting eroded away slowly and now were doing the polices job for them.

My dashcam saved me a LOT of money. So I'm perfectly happy to have one, in case there's an accident, and for that person only.

I've encountered some real pellets on the roads, but rarely felt the need to go home and upload a video of it.

They should be mandatory from factory IMO, this could help deter the majority of tools who drive with zero curtsey to other road users if they knew all their actions are being caught on camera.

I don't plan on doing anything wrong or driving badly so I can sleep easy every night

I now park my car outside my house without feeling the need to peek out the blinds everytime there's engine revving outside, safe in the knowledge that the next time some t**t decides to hit it and drive off I'll have their number plate on camera.

All good!

Cctv and plate recognition everywhere. Cia watching you w**k using your phone/webcam. Mobile logging your movements pretty much 24-7.

And dashcams are your issue?

Meh. Don't drive like a silly c**t and you'll be fine. In order to genuinely get the police interested, you'd have to be doing something really stupid or actually causing an accident. In which case you're fair game.

Lots of crashes for claims here, false claims and dodgy scrotes. I've got one just for pure peace of mind in case some turd decides to reverse into me at some lights or anything, or cut me up (standard Manc practice) when queue jumping, then I don't have to argue, I can just show footage and not draw it out and potentially lose my NCB

Apart from the last ten words that was exactly what I was about to write.

The main reason I have them is to determine blame. It's rare I put anything up online from my cameras...unless there's something to learn from it.

I've come across some right c***s but never have I thought, you know what i'll post this on youtube/vimeo/pornhub. However not everyone is like that

  A shiny black one.
I've seen so many mongrels with dashcams driving moronically into clearly avoidable accidents just because they're right and they can prove it.

I think there's two clearly seperate dashcam user groups;
1. The people who genuinely have them to prove innocence in the event of an accident.
2. Social justice warriors who think they're making the world better.

With the standard of driving in Huddersfield, you need 10 dashcams. But remove them everynight or they'll get stolen.

Get a dash cam. There are so many f*****s out there who would gladly put your life at risk for a few bob of the insurance.
If I had one it would have saved me alot of hassle.
the whole family have them now. think we have 5 or so.
