De cat, sport cat or standard cat

Car  AAS'D RB 182
Hi all, im currently running a full stainless system made by aas. It's a fantastic bit of kit, the thing is its also got a decat which I think is great but it's coming upto the forth time now that I have to put the standard cat on for mot and it's annoying, I'm also on my 2nd 02 sensor as it's been cooked I think!!! Question is will it make a big difference to performance with standard cat on, I no it will be alot quieter which I'm a little sad about but more concerned about the performance difference. Would I be best with a sport cat or are these just a expensive waste of money.

Also does a decat make a difference to the fuel consumption (especially with a shot 02 sensor)

Cheers

Craig

I think you'll gain mid range torque with a cat, and a standard one is only 200 cell anyway. 100 cell sports cats won't pass an emissions test so huge waste of money. I'm putting standard cat back in mine as it's that time of year and going to leave it.. Will miss the extra noise but never mind

I did wonder about the sports cat been a waste. Cheers for the info though mate, you seem to be answering a few off my questions lately!! So are we saying the performance could be improved with the standard cat on over de cat? Suppose i could always have a centre section made with no silencer in!!

I've seen back to back tests with and without a sports cat (182 has a sports cat as standard), it's around 2bhp difference. I wouldn't bother with a decat.

However the standard cat does have a restriction at the olive joint and some people sleeve this section. Search 182 cat mod

That's great tom cheers will look that up. Never new they were classed as a sport cat as standard. Cheers

Haha I am you're right :) I think a decat isn't worth the hassle for the tiny gains in bhp.. Plus like said you lose torque. Standard 182 cat is more that fine. It's just less noise.

That's it then I will leave early it on when I do it in a couple of weeks. Cheers though mate for the info. If I get fed up with the quietness I will have the centre box made with no box in.

When I first went from cat to decat the only difference I noticed was the noise, but when I went from the decat back to the cat it felt as if id lost throttle response, so personaly id either stick to your current decat or standard cat, however it isn't road legal without a cat!... Sports cats as have already been mentioned are pointless on a 182 as the standrd cat is 200 cell

Rev more freely with a decat and slightly more responsive plus decat rasp sounds alot nicer imo. As said it might gain a little mid range torque with a cat but if it's torque your after buy a different car lol.

Dont understand your point, these are quite torquey for what they are, mine pulls in 5th from 20mph.. Not massively obviously but loads better than many cars I've driven

They pull ok in 5th compared to your average day to day car. Not trying to diss on clios after all I've owned 3 172's amd still drive one to this day but they are far from torquey there just a light car with moderate power.
