Dead SD card?

Gaz's SD card is not working properly. The camera will still view images and write images on it, but with both a card reader or the camera plugged in the mac doesn't acknowledge it is there. Other cards register with the mac, and so do USB sticks etc.

has it just stop reading from it? on my phone it sometimes says its empty, then works again :S

Something major has gone wrong. As he tried his micro sd card on the same reader and it seemed to work, however, he's put it back in the phone and that won't be written to.

He doesn't want to format it as his only snow pics were taken on that card and he'll lose them.
