Decat with standard exhaust, 1.2 16v

  Mk2 Golf GTI

I dont really want this for the power gains, just to make my exhaust a bit more raucous without having to have a tailpipe showing. i only really wanted a full system if i could cut the tailpipe into the bumper but i cant be arsed right now as i want 172 bumpers.

Dont need an MOT til 2006, unless the cops made me have one of course.

Any opinions?

Well i have a de-cat on an ordinary system, only a peco backbox, and it has made it ALOT louder, its deaper, and sounds very meaty at 3-4k revs, only prob is its it bit loud when your doing 90 down the m/way for ahlf an hour, makes your damn ears ring

erm.... in theory yes, but on a 9 yar old car, bolts that havent been undone for 9 years are a problem.

once you have the bolts off its simply 2 bolts on each end, if they come off ok its a 5 min job, you can have a look / listen to mine at the next mids meet if you want

Mind you i know them peco back boxes make a fair difference as well. Did you notice any difference in power? i suppose id have to try it. Would you be able to make one up?

Dont even go there about old bolts... i changed the wheel bearings on my RT and it took me f**kin hours to get the hub off, never mind the tracking lanes.

to remove the cat on yours will take 5 mins at the most, dead easy.does anybody do a decat for the 1.2 16v? maybe a custom jobbie do you think.

no they dont, but a bloke off ere just cut his open and then removed the internals and welded it back together!! nice idea, but remind me how much a new CAT costs JAY!!!!

hmmm, i dont think ill be choosing that root! im sure lunner could knock one up. or a metal fabricator should be able to do it if i supplied them with dimensions

i made one for a laugh ages ago i can see if its still in the shed.

Get powerflow to make you one up. I was thinking of this idea when i had my Clio. Now im thinking now about it on the fabia. Had a quote from peco (for the fabia) for a new downpipe from the turbo (my cat is fitted into the downpipe). £95 inc vat & fitting. Sure the Clio would be a cheaper.

Yup that was me...Its reasonable loud, but not to extreme! The k-tec exhuast to loud anyway, so i dont notice. Doesnt really make any power difference, & im not sure how itll sound with a standard exhaust...But it pops and bangs like buggery!

would you say it is similar to a magnex tom? theyre quite quiet. I dont want it to be k-tec loud, just slightly noticeable...

AJR - What exhaust do you have with the decat?
