I believe its to do with the sensors one before and one after they should read different otherwise your light will come on K-tec do a decat that fools the sensors and is legal (they say)

You should never plug the second sensor in if you do then you'll (as you have) set the warning light off. It doesn't make any difference to power though just the lights there.
To get rid of it you need a garage to clear the fault then to stop it comming back unplug the second senor.

on the 172 i believe if you sort the sensors, then after 3 clean restarts the light will go off.

am certain gt gaz said something along them lines with his car.

Unplug it and cover the wires so they don't get dirty etc then just cable tie them up.
Quite a few garages can cleanr the fault if they have the right toolsing (Snap on can clear it).

It will apparently in GT's ase clear with enought clean starts but with no cat you won't get any clean starts.

I have the warning light on and never plugged the second sensor in! So it's not just having the sensor connected that causes it!
