Declaring Brake Pads

So, if i upgrade the brake pads to something like EBC Greenstuff do i need to declare them. I understand that all mods need to be declared but I've read some things about consumables not needing to be declared, do they only need to be declared if upgraded parts are used as obviously if i had a garage replace worn pads they probably wouldn't use original parts.

I just want to fully understand so i don't make a mistake and end up with invalidated insurance.

Hopefully the knowledge of CS can help!

Yeah that's my problem, being with admiral. Maybe I'll give them a ring and see if it will affect the price but I suspect they will just say that they would not insure me with it.

I'm glad that members are finally sitting up and taking notice of the Cliosport Insurance traders

I did ring you guys up last year but admiral were cheaper and I was stuck for cash back then.

The insurer mentioned are well known for undercutting or being cheap.

Out of interest Ollie (as my father is with them with several cars), what do you feel this affects? Granted my parents are a single case in tens of thousands no doubt, but with two accidents in their time with Admiral, they have been superb...?

Not a gripe, just interested to hear your views.

A customer of mine has been charged MORE for fitting non drilled brembos to his R26 instead of the factory drilled brembos as its a "moddification" i wish insurance wasn't full of people who are clueless

at skyinsurance, honest question here, when someone rings up for a quote how is it figured out? Does the computer randomly generate a number? Are old episodes of countdown on the TV and someone creates a number? Do you have a book etc? There are so many variables i'm baffled how insurance companies come up with a number

insurance group of car
age
driving experience
driving history
area you live in
married etc
what job

that about it?

Surely miles per year, commuting, worth of car, number of claims that company/broker have had against a particular make/model...

Almost every question you get asked at quotation stage can effect the price you pay.

Different Insurers calculate things differently but it is all based on statistics.

A good specialist insurer will look at the bigger picture but a computer system will offer a base rate and then often calculations are done to decide the rate.

You'd have to come and sit in the office for a day or so to see how it's done.

Main factors are

Age
Postcode
Length of driving
NCB
How long the vehicle has been owned/previous experience
Convictions
Accidents/losses
Named drivers
Occupation
Mileage allocation and usage
Car
Modifications

We look carefully at where the customer came from, eg we'd prefer a Cliosport member over a non-member

Admiral have been spot on for me for the past 4 years of driving and their customer service is fantastic. Ive never had a claim however but whenever I call to get a mod added or changed they have sorted it within minutes.

You will need to declare them. Anything which is different to OEM will need to be declared. It'll be uprated brakes or something. Problem is you wouldn't have bought EBC pads if you didn't want to brake harder and the risk will change, standard brakes are cheap as chippies ya see :)
