My Dell is fine for what I use it for. It's only a Vostro 1400 but is built well and it's pretty fast for £280. I prefer it to my work Vaio SZ5 which always has it's fans on.

I've had 2 dell laptops now, my Dad has one and he's recently bought another one for in his workshop. Not a single problem with any of them, all still running the original OS installations as well. For the price I'd buy another one.

Dell's aren't s**te.. they make some of the best laptops around.
Dell laptops are the heaviest and thickest laptops around, the mainboards and screens are piss and they constanstly die/break.

not one of the best laptops you can buy, but def can be the cheapest

you get what you pay for.

My dell laptop was rubbish. It needed a new dvd rom. Then the hard drive died then it would not boot and kept freezing and rebooting. I paid £800 for it 4 years ago and sold it after 3.

hmm dunno what ones you have been using but the e-series are very good

and to be honest we really have no problems with any of our dell kit

most problems are laptops but thats usually because they get the most hammer when they get chucked around and dropped and stood on and sprayed with salt and water

exactly the same here on a personal and corporate level it's the same old story, mistreat it and it'll break. Otherwise they're great, especially for the prices you get them for. D series are good too tbh.

Just sent my 1535 to get the integrated webcam sorted.. "loose connection" doesnt recognise the git.

Its definately a neat lapt

  Better than yours. C*nt.
Nope, Dells are pretty good TBH. Only issue I've raised time and time again is that they couldn't fix my XPS because of an nVidia chip - but that wasn't Dell's fault - HP/Apple/MSI/Gigabyte/Asus all had the same issue.

Other than that one laptop, every Dell laptop I've had has been brilliant. We've finally had our first E4300 turn up and it's astonishing - the only fault I can pick is the keyboard is more 'rattly' than the old D-series, but the keyboard in the D-series was IMO the best in the world, so it doesn't make the E-series particularly bad!

Build quality is great for the mid to high end stuff, and the Vostro 1510s that I've bought recently (20 of them so far!) all seem to be brilliant. Only ever had two engineer call out faults with Dell laptops except my XPS, and one was a dislodged magnet in the screen for the lid close thingy, and one was a dead hard disk.

Over 8 years of around 500 laptops, I'd say that's pretty good going.

Under the keyboard there's a connection for it (4-pin IIRC) which is just a plain USB but without the frills. That'll be all it is!

^ahhhhh man really?

Yeah, take the battery off, 3/4 very flat and short screws hold the top panel off, take the hinge covers out and the strip over the keyboard, 2 screws on the keyboard and it lifts up and it's the one that goes across the top of the optical drive. :)

^^ lol

In my last job I was dealing with around 3000 dells desktop/laptops. It's a much smaller number in my current job but they are entirely dell as well.

Oh and "The domain laptopsdirect.com is for sale".

Previous job was 400 HP desktops, but the job before that was around 14,000 Dell desktops. Lots of GX270s with a faulty capacitor in them, but other than that they were great. And besides, Dell usually sent an engineer the next day with a load of bits to fix them!

Yep, dell have been excellent with us too.

Guy spilt his coffee over a week old D830 with dell's lowest cover.. phoned them and they said that even though we weren't covered for it they would send a tech out next day with a new motherboard as good will jesture..

By 11am next day all was fixed.
