Dent in door+Dentman= Door handle doesn't work.

  Inferno 182
As you can guess from the title a dent man came to remove some dents from my passanger door, fine but now my outside door handle does not work now. What could he have done, this weekend i am going to remove the door card but what should i be looking for. By disconnecting cables in the door card (electric windows) will this have an effect on the cars alarm etc.

Having only just purchased the car it's not what i expected to be doing, but it happens. I will have to put a post on the newbie section with some pics of my car.

let me get this right.....

door works fine...dent man turns up...opens door and fixes dents...you pay, he leaves...you then find door handle no longer opens door......

then....

pick up phone...ring dent man...tell him door don't work...dent man returns and rectifies fault.......

Why are you having a go at the Dentman?

Does the Dentman even know its happened?

Bit harsh to slate him.

Whether he knows or not, he should have made sure he did a good job of it. Simply put, he should be notified and made to correct it.

That was my first thought, get him back but the last thing i want is for the guy to basically rush it and cause more damage. So i am with help going to take it steady tommorrow and fix it myself. I relise the debate about not having to do and normally i would be first to complain but i want it right.

Its a simple enought job but is there anything i need to know or look out for.

think some of you were being a little on the harsh side, yes he's made a small c**k up but not exactly a catastrophic failure is it? can you tell me you've never made even one mistake at work?? wouldnt call it incompetance, I assume the dent is removed and thats the part he fixes primarily

admitadly shouldnt of happened though. glad it was an easy fix :)

OK, lets say the driver didn't realise the dent man had popped a control rod out whilst working on his car.....on his first drive out hes involved in a minor shunt, access through the drivers side is restricted by a car hes come up against, during the impact he recieves a blow to the head so is dazed and shocked.....

throw in a wayward spark from a shorting battery causing a fuel fire, you can only gain access through the passenger door and time is a limiting factor.....

this 'slight' c**k up could cause a loss of life.....

you aren't the dent man are you????

WTF you on.....the guys being paid to fix a problem, not fix a problem and create an entirely different one.....

Any professional who makes a mistake, (which this isn't), would be happy to rectify it.....Any professional who doesn't fully check his work deserves to be slated....

These 'dent men' use steel rods of varying widths and shapes to gain access to the door skin through the top of the door, once the rods are inserted the skill takes over, knowing just where and how much leveridge/pressure to apply to 'pop' the dents back out is an art.....as is avoiding all internal mechanisms and moving parts.....he should have realised he'd popped a control rod out, he would have heard as well as felt it, thats why i doubt this was a mistake....imo he knew and figured its 50/50 on getting a recall......and guess what.....he won....

Another point; a fully functioning door is a M.O.T. requirement is it not.....
