Dephaser Advise

  Clio 182
hi all, right recently purchased a clio 182, was due a timing belt change so did a bit of research on specialist RS garages in south wales (Swansea area) I didn't find any independents that were recommended so I bit the bullet and took it to Renault in Swansea. I was quoted £699 for timing belt + aux + pulleys kit being as I had a good deal on the car I went for it. picked the car up drove it home, fine. that weekend was giving a bit of welly and there was an awful vibration coming through the pedals, being a HGV technician I took a look, found the exhaust to be knocking the anti-roll bar/sub frame, then I took a look at the engine mount and it was way out of line with the old washer marks in the paint. Back to Renault to correct the issue and re-inspect. I have only used the car a number of times since then and yesterday on a long run when I noticed it was quite noisy at idle, having listened to a few videos on youtube it sounds like the dephaser pulley. I need some advise on what to do as I was under the impression that it was included in the 'kit' even if it wasn't shouldn't it of been inspected or advised for it to be changed as it is a common failure.

I will upload a video of it now for your opinions + I would appreciate any ideas on what action to take

  A special one.
The dephaser is not part of the kit and they are around £150.
Its not something that needs replacing on every cam belt change but should have been checked for play.

Yep that dephaser is f**kED!

To add further salt to the wound, if you'd come over to me in somerset you'd have saved £99 and had the dephaser and oil and filter changed at that price.

But they should've heard that and advised it needed changing.

Thanks for the replies guys I'm going to pay a visit to renault tomorrow! The first time it was done it was done by an inexperienced technician who's quality of work was quite poor, even drastically over tightening wheel nuts. And when it went back it was then re-inspected to the point of timing by an experienced technician. So I'm thinking the inexperienced bloke didn't check the dephaser. Will update you with what goes on! Danlp6 if it wasn't for my busy work schedule I would of taken it to you or another recommended garage on here !

Dephaser pulley isn't a serviceable item so no replacement schedule. Can't really blame the garage for not doing it or bringing it to your attention.

Best bet imo is to go back to Renault and say its making a noise, act a bit dumb. You might be lucky and get the whole lot done again just for the price of the dephaser. At worst they will probably do it for a reduced price as a goodwill gesture for messing up with the other things.
