Evening all.

Looking at the car last night, the last 30k on the Motorways has left the paintwork in a bad way. Light swirling, chips, tar and wheels are pitted.

My basket on CYC contains the following:

- Clay - Meguiars Smooth Surface Clay Kit
- Polish -SRP or Sonus Hand Polish Bundle
- Wax - Collinite #476s
- Couple of Foam Applicators/Microfibres

Help. Am I going in the right direction?

Is there anything else that I should go for/consider?

if you have clay you will need a lubricant spray like megs quick detailer (might be in the kit tho)

Only machine polishing will remove swirls and scratches, so I would recommend poorboys glaze (either black hole or diamond white) to help hide any swirls etc after the polish. Then apply the wax.

Megs SSCK comes with the lubricant required. It is a good little starter pack.

SRP is a great all rounder, still use it myself. You need some sealent on top before the wax, such as EGP or Chemical Guys Blitz. Good choice of wax however, very long lasting and durable.

i just tried srp then cg wet mirror finish and the effects on that are great! Stil see a few swirls but il sort that out another time. Like the DJ Blue Velvet i use too though gona look around to find an easy on easy off wax.

Wisely chosen list there :approve:. You might want to look at a glass cleaner/polish of some sort to deep clean them after all the motorway miles you;ve been doing. Oh and don't forget tyre gel ;) Its endless honestly this detailing malarky

what u put infront of me
might want to think about halfords as they have 3 for 2 on, so AG HD wax, Megs kit, Megs foam pads, Megs Endurance tyre shine, etc etc might be worth a look, i know its not colli 476, but i have heard very good things about the autoglym HD wax

HD Wax isn't worth £40, or whatever it works out to in the Halfords deal.

Finish Kare 1000P is far more durable, you get twice as much and it's only £18. Something like Lusso Oro will nail it looks wise and is probably as durable and is only £35.

On silver though, you should really look at a sealant. A combo of Optimum Opti-Seal and Optimum Car Wax (OCW) will give impressive levels of gloss and reflectivity on silver :)

Carlack cleaner is great, so I'd always recommend that.

Colli is nice on silver, but you should look at Carlack LLS (Sealant) instead of a wax :)

Cheers Russ. Pushing the button sometime this week. (Said Hopefully) Still can't make my mind up!

You can play it safe with the Carlack Colli combo - it's tried and tested.

Defo get 476S though, rather than 915, as it's a touch better on lighter colours.

Bump this to the top for some advice on MF's/Applicators...

Whats worked for you?

I've gone for the - Megs SSCK/SRP/Carlack LLS/476 + Klearcote glaze for the plastics.

Depends what you are after chap.

MF wise there are millions out there, usually buy a shed load from Costco for general use, specialist after Paint Correction are from on of the detailing online shops like i4 detailing or cleanyourcar.

Applicators, same really. The Meguirars ones aren't to bad, but depends on what your are applying!!

Understood, Applicators mainly for the application of SRP and 476.

MF's I need one for drying. I have a few already for general use!

I thought that should suffice?

Drying wise, have a look on somewhere like i4detailing or cleanyourcar for their plush water magnets/MFs.

Applicators, the SRP will be fine with a megs applicator pad from Halfords. If you are getting serious, then there are better ones out there, but again, they will be more expensive.

applicators - lake country imo
MFs - i like the ones on i4d

everyone has their own taste though. No right or wrong answer

  Porsche Boxster987S
You say that ;)

Agreed on the LL apps, but there is such a massive range/choice.

tis true mate. Lol every brand has their own sub forum on DW and all give equally as good results. Depends on the technique imo. Obv some products are better than others but if theyre all used correctly theres no much in it.:)

I cleaned/clayed/polished/waxed the other day... now its covered in s**t yet again :(

Out to clean it again today...

Correct :) Don't think I have ever had a bad experience with pads. MFs on the other hand vary massively. If I ever stray from cyc ones, I always do the CD test :)

Got a couple of questions. Is the polishing cloths used to apply the polish or to take off the polish, ive been using them to take off? Also, what are the microfibre cloths used for? thanks

  F56 MINI Cooper S
oh. well the polishing cloths are pretty good at taking the polish off so ive kept on using them :dapprove: Dont have any of those cloths, how good a job do dusters do? where can i get them from?

Polishing cloths take the polish off because they are designed to polish . . .

Dusters scratch your paintwork.

Any detailing website, best looking at the top of the detailing forum homepage, i.e. one step back from in this thread.

Meh. Took the hit yesterday:

I4D Uber Premium Drying Towel
Collinite 476S Super
Meguiar's Smooth Surface
Carlack Long Life Sealent
Carlack Glass Polish
Lake Country Applicators
Foam Wax Applicator
Clearkote Vanilla Moose Wax Hand Glaze

Total Spend - £105 @ CYC and i4d

What did I forget - 3M Tape. FFS. Anywhere that sells this?

Trip to Halfords tomorrow for some Tar Remover, a few MF's, cheapo wheel cleaner - wonder if they do it?
