Deus Ex: Human Revolution

I've just finished it too. I'm not doing it again though!!! was a good game

I'm only doing it for the Achievements. As soon as Gears of War 3 comes out, that'll be my Deus Ex lot. Then I'll have a month or so until Battlefield 3, Fifa 12, Batman, Assassin's Creed Revelations, Uncharted 3, Forza 4...

Holy sh*t, that's going to be a nightmare 2 weeks :dapprove:

Finished it yesterday. Easily the best game I've played in a decade.

I chose to kill myself and take everyone down with me in the end. I'm not God.

I immediately started again since I missed a fair few quests early on!

I saved prior to the ending so I could go back and choose all 4 endings. Achievement unlocked. Also got the Achievement for watching the credits. Which I didn't watch, I went out and left it running. LOL. I've got 1 side quest to do to get an Achievement - Cloak and Daggers - accepting O'Malley's Blood Money. Going through on Stealth now on hardest difficulty without killing etc. It shouldn't take as long because you only have to do the main missions now and I don't have to hack as much as I did as I've already got a lot of the Achievements - 41 from 49 I have currently.

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/game/deus-ex-human-revolution/achievements/

I don't have the Doctorate Achievement, either. That looks like a f*cking nightmare, as I'm sure I'd picked up more than 29 of those b*stards.

Better than FO3? Really?

Oh 100%.

You know how much I love Fallout games, but this is like Fallout crossed with Metal Gear Solid. My two favourite franchises with the soundtrack and 'look' of Blade Runner, Tron and The Fifth Element... some of my favourite ever movies.

It can do no wrong in my book.

I'm with you there with the Bladerunner etc but I'm just not into it anywhere near as much as FO. A bit too linear even with the "open" world element. Not enough content or interaction in the cities etc. I did find myself just looking out of that tower thing over the city the other day though. It's good but I'll be trading it as soon as I finish it.

Same here. I'm off all week and I haven't even relaunched it. Had a couple of hours on Dead Island earlier, and the pull of Company of Heroes is still there.

The last time I loaded it, the saved game put me in an air-duct in the Police station with a few coppers just outside. CBA tip-toeing about and quit again - lol.

Pass the conversation with Haas at the front desk and you don't have to tip-toe anywhere.

He's probably dead on your save file, mind. F*cking cavemen. ;)

Think I'm coming up to the second boss now. Just got to the bit where you have to wait for the Funicular. . Waiting for it is easy, getting to it once it's arrived is another matter...I'm sure I'll work it out later.

Ghost and Smooth Criminal (not sure exacty what that one is awarded for?) on every mission/side mission so far :)

Smooth Operator. lol.

Ghost - 500 XP bonus for not being seen by anyone.
Smooth Operator - 250 XP bonus for not triggering any alarm.

You can get both together but Smooth Operator isn't available on every section.

I've got the ghost achievement at most sections now, but I'm going to try and get 'The Foxiest of Hounds' achievement, which is one entire playthrough with Ghost on every section, where possible.

Love the blatant MGS reference.

You don't need Ghost for Foxiest of the Hounds, mate. Just Smooth Operator. You can be spotted and have enemies turn hostile and still get the FotH achievement, as long as they don't trigger the alarm.

Steam update for it now....

The new patch addresses a variety of issues as well as adds some new features:

Fixes:
- We have addressed various issues that can occur for players that would result in ‘stuttering’.
o Stutters that are the result of graphics driver shader processing are now removed or significantly reduced.
o Stutters that are the result of data streaming have been removed or significantly reduced.
o Performance has been improved and made more stable on dual-core systems. This could previously also result in stuttering.
- Fixed issue where some players couldn’t complete the Motherly Ties side quest.
- Fixed an issue where doors in Omega Ranch sometimes wouldn’t open.
- The TYM medical card should no longer fall through the table if an NPC’s body comes into contact with the card. Players already stuck in this area will need to revert to a previous save before the card fell through.
- Occasional hangs for some players during video-playback have been fixed.
- A crash on startup when running DX11 on a single-core CPU has been fixed.
- An issue causing Eyefinity setups to not be correctly detected for some players has been fixed.
- Fixed an issue where the HUD would get permanently disabled for some players.
- Fixed certain issues that caused the mouse cursor to be able to leave the game-screen on multi-monitor setups.
- Fixed an issue that caused the mouse cursor to not be visible in-game when the user has mouse trails enabled in Windows. We still recommend disabling mouse trails for a smoother in-game mouse cursor.
- Fixed issue where ammo count for collected guns is incorrect when Adams weapon is augmented.
- In DX9 mode:
o Fixed error message for some users when trying to use FXAA Medium or FXAA Low anti aliasing modes.
o Fixed shadow-mapping ‘lines’ on some graphics hardware when using anisotropic filtering.

Feature Additions:
- The Enter and Numpad-Enter keys can now be bound to game actions in the keyboard control menu.
- Intro logos can now be skipped on all but the first run of the game.
- Added windowed mode.
o Selectable in the menu, and can be toggled between windowed, fullscreen, and fullscreen windowed using ALT-ENTER.
- Added an option to change the text language of the game. This setting only changes the text language, the audio is controlled by the language option in Steam.

On top of this we are continuing to monitor for any issues that may need to be addressed in a future patch. One extra feature we can already confirm for a future patch is support for Nvidia 3DVision and Nvidia Surround.

We hope this patch will allow players to further enjoy Deus Ex: Human Revolution.

I just thought last night when I was playing it. Sat a few feet from a 50" LCD with the 5.1 cranked up.

Atmospheric like you'd never get sat bolt upright at a desk with some headphones on.

IMO.

Ah, I can do that. The only issue then would be using those damn bloody wireless things to control the PC. I detest wireless for control inputs. I'll be the last human on Earth to use a wired keyboard and mouse.

Even on the 360 Bookend - I use wired controllers all the time. When I can be arsed to use it that is. ;)

5.1 headphones and Stereoscopic 3D is actually a lot more atmospheric... infact 100% so

It's just about sociable as taking a piss. But it's SP so who cares lol

No way. Headphones don't shake your room when you're exploring The Hive because of the bass.

I also don't watch movies or relax by sitting bolt upright at a desk. ;)

Try having 5.1 where all the speakers are within 3ft of you. Now that sounds awesome. Purely out of respect for the neighbours - I rarely crank them up high. :)

Eidos Montreal: Deus Ex bosses a “lesson learned,” not Deus Ex enough

PC Gamer

We've heard GRIP's side of the confused, rather depressing saga that is Human Revolution's not-so-revolutionary inclusion of boss fights, but what about Eidos Montreal? Well, the developer hasn't augmented its ears to tune out all criticism.

Speaking with Rock Paper Shotgun, project lead Jean-François Dugas was refreshingly open about the whole mess. Don't take that to mean he's done with boss fights altogether, though. Rather, Dugas feels that his game's boss fights weren't quite comfortable in their own skin.

“When we started the goal was to have those boss fights with the same design and rules as the rest of the game. We had our pillars of stealth, of non-lethal actions, and everything else, and we wanted to make sure that was reflected in the bosses, but in the end it was not... I think the biggest weakness there wasn’t the concept of having boss fights, it’s just that our boss fights are not Deus Ex boss fights and that’s why people are complaining about them. I guess we live and learn,” he admitted.

“Should we have cut them? It’s a decision we made, we said 'well at least they will be entertaining in some fashion'. The biggest surprise, actually, was having released the game and finding that people thought they were frustrating. Not just that they weren’t that interesting, but that they were frustrating.”

And yet, the encounters – ultimately responsible for many a crushed keyboard and irate, all-caps tweet – stuck around for the long haul. But why? Surely someone noticed that dying 17 times in a row against the first boss wasn't fun, right? Apparently not.

“The playtesters internally gave us a lot of good feedback for the game, and on the bosses they felt that the fights were entertaining and making you use what you had learned,” said Dugas. “They didn’t say they were frustrating. We knew it was not in step with the rest of the game, but the surprise for us was that the playtesting was correct everywhere but the bossfights. So lesson learned.”

Fingers crossed that Eidos Montreal irons out all the kinks next time around. Or at least throws in a boss who loves nothing more than to lean obliviously next to air vents.

It's not entirely pointless upgrading your Augmentations to include more batteries. You can get certain nutrient packs or jars that recover all the energy cells and sometimes you need them. For example, if you only had 1 energy cell (battery), the Cloaking period would be very short. However, having 4 or 5 you can remain under stealth for a much longer period. Ok, I agree it's very odd that once you lose a cell you can't recharge it and are left with only 1 in the end, but having a few more cells is certainly worthwhile.

The last level boss could be made much simple using the Cloaking Augmentation and having 4 or 5 battery cells :

Simply cloak yourself and then hack the console to turn off the life support for the pods. If you've enough Nuke's and Stop Worms you can do this very easily, all while your battery cells run down. Trying this with 1 cell would be pointless, as the cloaking would run out and you'd get fried.

I'm still on my second playthrough. Close to meeting the third boss again. I'm on hardest difficulty and going for stealth and Pacifist Achievements. I think I have 44 of the 49 available. I know for a fact I won't get the Doctorate Achievement so not fussed about that (reading all 29 ebooks within the game. I tried my best on my first playthrough but didn't manage it, so I'm not going through it all again to find them after this run, as I'm only doing the main missions this time around, making things much quicker to get to the end).

I've now completed all the side quests and got all the relevant Achievements for them all, including the Secret Achievements. I have 3 left which I will hopefully get right at the end of the game - Foxiest of the Hounds (no alarms), Pacifist (no deaths excluding bosses) and finishing on the hardest difficulty. What's left after that I'll have to check.

As for the game itself, really enjoying it still, even on the second playthrough. It's a lot more difficult, that's for certain. I've saved so many times and reloaded due to f*ck up's or being caught out by camera's or hostiles. Hopefully it'll be worth it in the end. I've killed the two bosses so far using Typhoon, as Pacifist Achievement doesn't include the bosses. Typhoon really does make short work of them, though, especially on full power. Another reason for having more than 1 energy cell available, as it uses up an entire cell charge for each use. So having 4 cells and 4 Typhoon ammo means you can fire off 4 rounds consecutively rather than having to wait.

Hoping to finish this off by Friday in time for Fifa 12 and the BF3 beta, so I can trade it in. Doubt I'll play it again. Has been a fantastic game though and thoroughly enjoyed it.

I've got both of those. One's for the conversation with the fella that wants to die by Morphine overdose and The Throwdown is winning the argument with Taggart at the convention centre.

Taggart's easier to do with the pheromone aug.

Yeah, definitely, but I completely missed his speech and instead went through the vents into his room trying to be stealthy. Didn't even realise he was making a speech. LOL. Hopefully I'll have a save game around that time.

Yeah, I did that the first play through. I just stumbled upon it this time by going through the main doors, so I could've easily missed it again.

Finished my second playthrough last night, and was left very disappointed.

I got the 100G for completing on the hardest difficulty, but didn't get the Pacifist or Foxiest of the Hounds Achievements, even though I didn't kill a single person (other than bosses) or set off any alarms.

I R Disappoint. Ended with 44 of 49 Achievements.

I loaded an old save point to get The Throwdown Achievement that Chris mentioned, but that's it for me and the game now. It was a great experience and fantastic game. But I'm not going through all that again.

Do it. There's a reason it's one of the highest-rated games this year.

Scutch: Nah, f*ck that. I think I've missed loads of the books already.
