Diagnostics - where to go?

Engine management light is on and just wondering where the best place is to go to have it looked at? Was thinking it might be best to just go straight to the main dealer where they've got the proper kit but someone had pointed me towards a local garage who has a decent diagnostics kit. What does anyone think/recommend?

Im guessing you want the fault diagnosed and rectified rather than just diagnosing? Personally I'd take it to a main dealer or a specialist for diagnostic work.

Im in Peterborough so a bit too far!! I've had someone at work recommend a local garage. They charge £25 but if their kit doesn't show the fault they don't charge. Got to be worth a shot?

I would have taken it there but a bit far to go just for a diagnostics test. Website looks good though, just a shame it's not a bit nearer.

Forgot about Dan....just off (2 miles) the A1 black cat roundabout...so a lot closer....give him a call (dosen't bite)....

Really, don't waste your hard earned with a "local can do all garage" they're handy for fixing damage to sills etc ....not really well up for diags and code deciphering (as I've found out this week)but, a specialist is what you require.

I'm going to Mick's as heard\read a lot of stuff and the only way to really know is to try it out for yourself.

Both of the above look like good options. Its going into a friend of a friend who has got his own garage today as he said he would plugged it in free of charge. I'll see how I get on there and if I don't get any joy I'll try one of the above
