Diesel Clio's, which are the good ones?

  2004 1.5 DCi 80 Dyna
I am considering changing to a diesel but want to stick with a clio as I love my current one.

I have about £4000 to spend if I do eventually go for one, are there better ones out there and ones with a bad reputation?

I would rather have a mk2 ph2 model instead of the larger newer models.

  BG 182 FF
dci 65 iirc 35 quid a year tax and 65+ mpg and there have been a few bought for a good price lately

  ITB'd MK1
any mk2 ph2 tbh. 65 is easiest to find and easy to make a few improvements on, 80 and 100 are relatively unusual, and a bit quicker. Cheap tax on all of them, some of the early mk3s were higher tax as they had higher emissions

  Better than yours. C*nt.
80 IMO - 100s are harder to come by, harder to source second hand bits and comes with a dildo for a gearstick, whereas the 65 is just an 80 with less power and economy. £4k should get you a corker private and a very good dealer one.

£20 a year? That's brilliant!

About how much should I be looking at for the models, is £4k about right? I know the link goes to one mentioned above but is that an unusually cheap one compared to usual prices?

Cheers.

now, we spent a bit of time looking this up, and can't find a reason why the vans would be more, but didn't have a registartion to try it against. it still comes under the same bracket so according to the DVLA website, it should be the same

My old one is bv02lgo try that. Im pretty sure its more expensive, probably because its classed as a Light goods vehicle?

Hit or miss really mate. If it goes wrong, it goes f*cking wrong.

Reliability of the engine doesn't seem as good as the petrols i'll say that. My 1.2 16v never gave me a single engine problem. My Gf's mums dci has had a few issues; alternator, erg valve, injectors... spent about £500ish the other month on it.

Great little car though, providing it doesn't break again. 56.9MPG over the last 2500 miles, nice and torquey, cheap tax, winner realy.

You getting the faulty injector replaced then? getting a second hand one or new?

Reliability is pretty good i must, ive had mine for 40k miles and the only problem i've had was with an electrical issue but thats just renaults in general. Provided they are serviced regularly and not abused i don't see why they would pack up! some injector cleaner wouldn't go a miss every so often either.

dci 100 is the one to go for, 65 means u get the colour and spec u want due to being less rare, 80 is a compromise of both and 100 is a case of take what you get!

Mine hasn't been looked after or maintained at all.

The aux belt STILL hasn't been done after 8 years /65k!!!

Guy's saying it's £150 to even check the injectors (see my thread in the Faults section, I'll be updating that one).

Yes so make sure it has been serviced correctly please!!!

Jesus that's early for a diesel engine!

My father-in-law's VW Caddy had a piston fire straight through the engine or something like that at 49k! Just shows you anything can happen.

Mine was serviced regularly with cambelt etc all done on time, but blew up after 118k

Crikey, what happened to it? any symptoms before hand?

Andy the cambelt has been done though yes? I changed mine just when it was over 5 years, the belt looked fine tbh and so did the aux belt, still changed them though. Aux belts arent that hard to do

£150 to do a diagnostic? is he using the proper renault software, clip? thats what he needs to do the best diagnosis. I wouldn't give that sort of money to any old geezer, is he a renault specialist?

talk to you about it on cliodci.net

Nope, unbelievably. I expected better from my dad tbh.

I'm going to ask the guys to do both the cam and aux straight after they fix this awful problem. The aux belt is screeching like mad, and the idle is insane. Rev needle bouncing all over the place and almost stalling frequently.

hmm id rather get it done by a specialist who has done many other dci's tbh, do you know of any in your area? should be a few about.

My aux belt was screeching when we first changed it, but tightened the bottom tensioner up and it went away. Sounded like a right shed for a few weeks though lol. Rev needle bouncing will be the injectors if theres a blockage and not the right mix is being produced.

Just text my dad he said one of his auto sparky mates came out and did it took no time at all. Have heard that renault charges a lot for it.

There was a diesel injection specialist but they went out of business over xmas! Typical! Don't know of any others.

clio_dci_80 how did you do this? I have no idea how to check whether they are faulty or not but I'm sure it wouldn't take 3 hours, especially from a mechnaics tbh.

Mj turn the car off leave it for half hour to let the pressure out of the system. On the side of the injectors there are rubber tubes that then go back to a single tube that runs across the back of the injectors. Take these off then wipe away any spilt fuel. Next you need to undo the solid metal fuel pipes that go on top of the injectors. Undo the nut on top of the injector then loosen the one at the other end so I can be shift out of the way. Now holding injector in is a metal clamp undo this then wiggle the injector free. Usually if there is a problem with injector the the shaft it sits in will be all carboned up. When you put them back make sure you get new washers to replace the old ones.

Is it that straightforward to someone who doesn't even know where the injectors are? Lol. I found a diesel specialist in my area, f*ck these useless c*nts that have it at the moment, may have a look at it tonight myself.
