Difference between a 172 and 182 engine?

Car  Ph2 Clio 172
Sorry if this has already been covered, but searching for "172 182 engine" gets a billion and 1 results.

I know there are some differences between the 172 and 182 engine that allows it to produce the around 10bhp more, but what exactly are they?

The manifold on the 182 is better than that on the 172
There are more but that's all I know engine wise

only the manifold.. and there is also something to do with the way the brake servo works if memory serves me right...

172 runs a 4-1 exhaust manifold
182 has 4-2-1 exhaust manifold

As far as I've been told the cams are slightly different after someone doing some 'tests' on RTOC

Also the 182 got some tweaks the to ECU map.

Some cars got fitted with 'Rs' stamped inlets which seem to have been machined more accurately than non stamped inlets so they have a slightly better air flow, as far as I'm aware these can be found on 172 cups and 182 trophys, both of which I've owned

Are the inlet manifolds the same?

Basically, because I have a 182 style exhaust on my 172, I get a lot of people going "oh, is that one of those 182 Clios?", and I go "Its a 172 actually", and they go "oh, whats the difference?". Id like to be able to answer that question with something more intelligent than "uh... Its got 10 more bhp and no spare wheel", lol.

The exhaust manifold is one of the key facts, that and the ECU map is slightly better.

doesnt the PH1 172 have bigger exhaust ports?
Yeah a ph1 head is meant to be the best for power so I've heard, one of the many things I considered when looking at making a hybrid engine for the trophy

Sorry, should have specified Phase2 172.

I know theres rather a lot more difference between the Phase1 and 2 172 engines.

internals differ too, the cranks are different, the balancing legs on the crank are way bigger on 182's, and for some reason they too feel different when driving, 182 engines are overall smoother and punchier, so there are changes in them although part are interchangeable except for the upper intel manifold, many say they are the same, but... they aren't, you would be surprise how many changes OEMs incorporate into their products throughout their lifecycles.
