Dipped headlight relay location

  RS Clio 182
My 182 has developed a fault which I'm hoping is just a broken relay. When the engine is running the headlights are on with the switch in the 'off' position, the sidelights come on when they should. the final position on the switch also brings the dipped lights on. I think that the relay that controls the headlights has welded itself closed as they stay on with the switch in the 'off' position?

Anyone had this problem before?

Also any ideas where the relay is that controls it so I can check it?

also the reverse light no longer works wondering if that is just a coincidence or maybe the fault is linked?

Anyone have any idea? If a wiring diagram is available then that would be a big help! I have tried taking all of the relays out from the fuse box in the engine bay but they don't control the lights, there must be another bank of relays about somewhere?

on the passenger side 2nd fusebox its the 3rd relay down. more likely to be a faulty stalk/switch.

Thanks I have taken all 6 of the relays under the glove box out so I can take them to work and test them. I don't think it is the stalk as the lights work correctly with the ignition on just not when the engine is running Hope I find a broken relay or it may be the uch :(

I didn't know I have auto lights but they have never been on in daylight before. Also I have never noticed the lights come on automatically when it gets dark so if I do have auto lights it certainly doesn't appear to work?

I checked all 6 of the relays under the glove box and they are all in perfect working order :-S

You know you have automatic lights right?

Feel pretty stupid now as it was the automatic headlights so I was looking for a problem I never had. However it does seem that someone disabled the auto lights and by me changing the battery it has gone back to factory settings hence me never noticing I had them. Thanks for pointing that out its stopped me scratching my head now I have shined a torch at the sensor which made the lights go off.

Cheers Mark I think I will disable them again, was really happy to find it was just that causing them to be on.

However the car is currently dead in my car park as the alternator failed, probably what drained my old battery in the first place. My local Renault garage want £458 to supply and fit a new one so I am getting mine refurbished at around £50 and 2 hours of a mechanics time to install it. Never ending atm

Im having the same problem, im aware that I have auto headlights, but the last couple of days, even with the sun shining and the skies blue, i have the lights on :s its as though the auto sensor is stuck on?

Where is this sensor so i can check its not covered in mud or something, stopping my lights going off?

thanks

The autoheadlights, dipped beam, rear lights, and interior dash lights are all on the same relay! And i bet you anymoney its fallen out! (exact same problem happened to me).

Have a look under the passenger dash and the relays are upside down. when they started coming out all sorts of funny things happen. just clean it and put it back in :)
