Get yourself some Autoglym clean machine and a hose pipe or pressure washer and a I find the washing up brushes from Ikea work very well. Apply the clean machine to the engine bay and leave it to work for a few a bit. Then go at it with the brush once you are happy rinse it off. It it is still not clean enough do it again. To finish off I spray Autoglym Vynal and rubber care all over it and leave it to dry looks great once it has dried.

get some gunk engine degreaser spray, works a charm, that is if its oil gunk thats your problem! spray it on then pressure wash it off
