As people would have read i want to fit my sub and amp to my standard cd player in the 172 without losing the controls on steering wheel and changing the cd player.

am i right in thinking that adding this http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/stinger-saloc-p-1461.html will allow this to work. will it have to be connected to the rear speaker outputs? Does that mean i'll lose the back to speakers?

Yes it'll work like that, but the standard headunit is really shite tbh and that'll produce a really crappy signal.

Erm not sure on loosing the rear speakers because I don't know if it'll effect the load on the HU, best to ask on http://www.talkaudio.co.uk/

yeah you will have to lose the rear speakers as you will put extra load on the h/u' internal amp and it will then probably overheat and keep cutting in and out.
