DIY alloy wheel refurb

Im probably completely wrong, but can you repair light scratches on alloys like you can on car bodywork

Like on the bodywork if you wet sand the scratch then polish it back up?
Can you do this on alloys if the marks aren't to deep? or are they painted differently?

Dont think they are painted any differantly. If you've got 182 alloys as per your sig, they are quite flat faced so maybe try a good compound and machine buff. Alloys are easy to re-furb, give it a go.

Yea they are the 182 alloys. Yea Im thinking about it and if it goes wrong I'll just get them powdercoated.

Only thing is I don't have a machine so would it be possible to do it all by hand?

Yes - I did a set of fiesta RS alloys a few years back by hand and they looked perfect afterwards (rattle can job as well!)

Just take your time filling, rubbing down, building up the layers of paint (allowing them to dry properly inbetween), then use a good laquer to seal it all with (otherwise brake dust and tar'll destroy all your hard work) ;)

Yea I know you can do the whole alloy, I mean just sand down a certain area then polish it back up, like on a car body part, rather than stripping everything off and starting again though?

Maybe but depends how deep the scratches are. Paint on the wheels may be thinner than the car so be careful when sanding. If your doing it by hand i wouldnt go below 1200 paper.

Depends what you are trying to repair but i dont think it will work.

  Dodgy one
Wouldnt bother on wheels, As said above factory paint is piss thin unless they've been refurbished. f**k knows how they get it so thin and no peel :S

Garage Refurb FTMFW :) Teaser, s**t pic but you get the idea, Base'd up in 205110 Factory cup pack colour ;) ) and 2k gloss laquer, Going to look mint fitted
