Do I buy another Clio?!

Not sure whether to get another Clio!!

Had a 182 about 3 years ago when I was 19, was a minter and I loved it, best car I've owned by far.
Since that I've had a DC2 integra, R26 and now a 330 coupe in between but always fond myself preferring the 182.

I have a van for day to day driving etc so the car is purely for fun.

But will the Clio not feel as good so far down the line?! Ideally I want a trophy with xenons and mark fish springs, or a liquid yellow FF.

Or I could keep the 330 which is a great car.
Or sell it and my van and get a navara or hilux.
Or sell and use the money for going towards a new kitchen.

There's too many options!!

Big difference between a 330 and a Clio. Depends if you feel you've grownup or grown out of a small tinny French Hatch.

Depends on what you're using the car for really.

I've got a 182 at the minute and long journeys (anything over an hour) are painful and make me glad i also own a 320d! lol.

Daniel, today for instance, had a shite week at work, just finished now and want to go for a thrash, but the Beemer isn't the car to do it in really.

Might see of there are any at local garages and go for a blast.

I want a grown up car but I think secretly I'm still wanting a hot hatch. But the r26 and dc2 didn't hit the spot my old 182 created!

The problem is, beemers are so well built, that you need to be doing stupid speeds before it 'feels' quick.

A Clio, revving its tits off, rattling and bouncing down the road, will give you that thrill.

Surely thats why you own an R6??

Very true...I'm looking at getting something similar soon to go along with keeping the Clio. Purely for the fact I'm getting a bit older and the missus and I don't really want to be pottering around or doing long journeys in a stripped out 172.

Daniel, the R6 went a while ago, just not updated anything!

Gonna get the Beemer sold then do the usual impulse buy I think.
Still want a Clio though!

sometimes they arnt as good as you remember when it comes to old cars, i remember my little 1.2 16v being brilliant and not really that slow, until i get back in a 1.2 and realise they are dangerous!

^ Yeah maybe.

But in reality terms the R26 and 330 arent leagues ahead in speed off the line, so might not be the case?

It'll feel 100 year old in comparison, whats the budget? I'd try a 197/200

Budget is low to be fair, want to spend as little as possible.
Never got on with the 197/200's really.

That's the plan I think.

Just put the beemer on autotrader so will see when that goes and how much I get for it.

I would get another Clio, and a Hilux ;)

That helps imo

I drive a van all week @ work, then come weekend the Clio feels ace! If using it as a daily and especially in town traffic, it would annoy the f**k out of me. Lucky i live in the sticks, B road blast ftw!

It does mate. every time I get back into the Clio after driving the Hilux or Fabia vrs it feels great!

If it was a weekend car for me it would be a vx220. Clio's are getting far too cheap for my liking now.

Makes absolutely no sense. The less paid initially leaves lesser exposure to depreciation. You will lose less over the next 3 years on a 3 grand Clio than you will on a 15 grand M3.

Im not talking about depreciation more the fact that they are now the new saxo vtr's. I wish I paid £1 for my car as much as anyone else.

When I bought my 3rd Clio 182 I looked around for a while - 330 Clubsports, Integras, 350zs, other hot hatches. But ultimately if you want a fairly torquey go-kart - it's hard to beat the 1*2s.

My mates R26, stock is no faster on the road than my car and you'll struggle to take the same sort of speed in to a corner to boot.

If I were you the obvious choice would be to get the R26 mapped... Unless of course you want a go-kart.

Whilst you're sort of right, i don't see how that argument comes into play. A weekend toy should be exactly that, something you enjoy. Not something to please others.

  Clio 197
I was recently looking at selling the cup for a 330, after two weeks of looking at the 330 along with practically every other hot/warm hatch i came full circle. It is hard to beat the clio for the price (MPG, handling, looks etc)

  Audi A3
i had an e46 325m sport and loved it. quick, decent mpg, looked great. problems occured when parts broke or services came into play,

if it was me personally, id get the kitchen sorted (as gay as that sounds) get a cup and keep the works van for work.

cars can be had and can come and go. if you put money into the house you wont regret it, a car on the other hand, you might.

  172 cup
After owning an R26 I would maybe try a R26.R as a weekend car, but they are still quite highly priced. Depends on budget really. A mapped r26 sounds like a good option aswell.

Agreed, few choice tweaks and you have a fun little track car that costs buttons to repair/replace if you stack it. Cheap fun, give a f**k if that means losing social standing points in the eyes of the forums willy waving elite :rasp:

could look at a focus ST if your budget stretches far enough, the oldest ones around about 6 grand now aren't they?

Ive just gone from r26 to 182. and gotta say i much prefer it. its so much more raw. im a bit like you and have a van for work. when i get in the clio it feels much better to go out for a thrash in that the megane. and running costs are so much cheaper!

  MCS R56
I went from 172 Cup to 330ci. I remember testing the 330 and then getting back in the Clio and thinking, $hit! I knew then that I'd had enough of the basic spec, as fun as it was. So it depends on what you are looking for - basic fun or luxury with an element of the fun, as the 330 is pretty decent in the handling dept.
