Do induction kits damage your engine?

Sounds ghey to me. I had a K&N on my 1.2 16v for about 9 months or so and it ran fine.

If they're were any concerns, why would people buy them?

How can it hurt an engine, just lets it breath a bit better! was it a renault garage who told you this?

  Tangoed Works
The guy was prob old skool. Its a know fact that these open IK can let microscopic particles through and over the years do make the engine wear that little bit faster.

Hence why manufacturers use paper(and because its cheaper). It might block that little bit of extra air, but they would rather have that, then engines wearing out slightly faster.

The local garage isn't wrong. But he's overstating the case.

If you lived in an area where there was a lot of blown sand or grit that was picked up and sucked into the engine a sports filter isn't going to do as good a job as a standard filter. A dry foam filter is good enough for a racing engine's short life. An oiled foam one has to cleaned and re-oiled periodically, and very few people do.

Do you live in an area, or drive on the sort of roads, where a lot of sand or grit would be being sucked into the engine?

Well he lives in Leicestershire not Iraq

As long as the filter isnt damaged it'll be fine.

Years back a AA man told me chipping a car damages it because it creates heat. He then nearly blew my ecu up with his fantastic knowledge by by-passing something in the engine according to the Ford dealers of the time. 'Computer mechanics' know nothing
