Do quiet stainless exhausts exist?

My exhaust fell off my phase 1 172 while driving down the Borders the other week - that makes it my second Renault exhaust in 4 years so I'm looking for a stainless replacement that will last a bit longer.

The trouble is I want a quiet one as I do a 30 mile motorway commute every day and they seem to be hard to find. I can find any number of big-bore/multi-pipe sports numbers but I'd be deaf by the time I got to work - does anyone make a decent stainless exhaust that doesn't sound like the back box fell off at 80mph?

Any suggestions much appreciated - I really don't want to give the Renault dealer any more cash.

ktec stealth?

it is louder than standard, but not a lot + has hidden tailpipe.

Yep

Not quiet but definately okay for day to day driving and motorway work

My KTEC Stealth is far from quiet, it really booms at most speeds tbh, and I don't have a Decat either.
I can live with it as it does sound good when pressing on or on track, but for day to day stuff it's pretty grim IMO, maybe i'm getting old. :(

Having said that, KTEC changed their supplier a while back, and I had one of their new ones, so maybe the older ones (6 months) are quieter?

I got a quiet stainless steel one built at powerflow, it was the same as the original.

I've read of a few people getting exhausts built specially - is this common or do you need to go to some sort of specialist manufacturer? How does the cost compare?

Dave my ktec stealth is only a few weeks old, so presume it is one of the new ones.

I had a lot af trouble when fitting it to stop it from blowing, cos to be fair the fit is crap.

If yours is loud perhaps it is blowing? I had the most trouble on the join above the rear axle, the centre section seems to be about 2" to short!

I was worried when I bought mine that it would be loud (I do a lot of miles,so didnt want it to be) but although they are definately louder than standard Im happy with the sound.

Or if you want a custom exhaust try Longlife - they have branches all over the uk now and will give us a good discount. Will do whatever you want - from a quiet/standard sound to a clean off nuts deafening sound - the choice is yours. Again can do whatever you want with the tail pipe - whether it be a stealth/hidden type or cut into the bumper stainless type its up to you. Plus you will find they will fit better than a mass produced system and dont cost a lot more - if anything!

Exactly!

Dave, sure its not blowing?

Hmm, maybe, I should have it checked. It was fitted by KTEC themselves, and has been this loud since fitting (well, sound has changed slightly as it seems to with all stainless exhausts).

I'll let you know if anything is discovered....

Cheers both of you.

Tim.

I had problems with mine blowing slightly from this join but managed to sow it down a bit with a jubilee clip.

Not the best fix but TBH I can't be fooked to get under there and mess about....If it gets really bad I'll just get it welded up:D
