Do you reccommend a 1*2

May seem like a silly q on here, but when you think about it, it isnt really...
a friend of mine who recently got one has had abit of a epic problem with his rs (involving towage) and dsnt reccommend it. Yes he is one of many, and yes all cars have their problems, but is a 1*2 worth all the problems it brings? what car would you have bought instead.

Fiesta ST, but touch wood i have never had a problem with my 182, from a knock to a whine, im glad I got a Clio than a Fiesta :D

Im sure ST owners may say different

  ITB BG 182
i think if i didnt not have the chance to get My 182 at the rate i did then i would have gone and bourght a golf gttdi or some thing, glad i stuck with the clio to be honest, i think its brilliant.

i'd recommend both 172s and 182s having owned them previously, but it'd have to be mint, there are more and more shoddy ones about these days.

was going to have my dads festa ST but held out a month saved some more pennys and never been so happy!

^^ thats all very well but doesnt mean it wont go wrong a week or month down the line!

mine was 100% mint when i bought it but it needs a new driveshaft now! just 1 of those things!

joy of motoring!

True, very true but generally speaking the condition of the car on appearance, plus FSH etc is a general indicator of how well its been looked after and maintained.

My work colleague had exactly what you had - from a Honda bought from a Honda dealer!

I would recommend them. For the money they cost not much comes close.
They are quick, handle very well, look good (yet understated), have all the mod cons you need, safe and (although not the main reason to buy one) very good on fuel.

I don't think so far (touch wood) they cost to much to keep compared to most modern cars really. As above they're good on fuel, tyres and brakes are cheapish. My cambelt didn't cost as much as I expected......

The main problem I have with mine are rattles but at the end of the day I don't care because its such an entertaining car to drive:D

this is also true but the paintwork etc on my was immaculate! and came with FSH! you never know though!

like the thread the other day with the 197 that had sent a piston through the block and that was how old!

you can never tell!

but since owning the 182 ive not found it to bad!

only had it a month so not bought tyres, brakes etc for it yet! but they cheap and quick and handle well!

I'd think twice. If you can afford it go Jap.

For the price 1*2's are excellent and when there are no problem i love mine to bits, but its French and they do have problems so it being cheap can turn out to be not so cheap when you have to spend loads on fixing it.

If they never had any problems they woulnt be so much cheaper that CTR's. If they were problem free they'd be amazing cars, as they are now they're just v.good cars............. imo of course :)

Even though I have had countless expensive annoying problems in the year Ive owned my 172, I would definately have another, all the problems are forgotten when Im behind the wheel and enjoying the Clio at its best.

I love my car :D

1*2's are crackin cars for the money, can pick up a decent one pretty cheap now too!

Had the choice between the 182 and Type-R, went for the 182 in the end cause it was newer and had less miles than any Type-R for the same price. Also not had any probs with it since.

You can't just put that down to to "problems". The CTR cost more to buy in the first place because its a bigger class of car.

it was between a ctr or a 182 for me! never regreted it feel iv made the right choice :)

Agree with what everyone says about CTR's. You find a CTR the same age as a 182 and you'll see theres a £2-3k price difference. That buys a hell of a lot of petrol/ covers insurance etc. As for buying Jap, yes they are more reliable but when they do go wrong it costs to fix them (don't get me started on German cars!!)

With the price of 182's at the moment, you won't find much more performance for the money.

Just down to luck. Other than conumables, never had a problem with any of the 5 I've owned.

Good car for the money, they're getting so cheap now.

I owned a 172 for 3 and a half years and nothing seriously major ever went wrong.

Most expensive thing to fix that happened was the exhaust backbox dropping off. :dapprove:

However the list of minor faults/niggles is as long as my arm. Most of which were fairly cheap/free fixes.

Yes great cars.

I have owned some quick cars but the Clio ticks all boxes.

Its great out of the box there are not many things you can or need to change. Like some cars need 2 or 3 mods to bring out there best.

Great on Fuel too.

One downside is the rattles as mentioned. But other cars do that too.

Oh yes and I have two. What more of a recomendation do you need.

One was bought on the "if I could pick any car to have fun in it at any cost"

The other for an economical commuter for 50 mile daily round trip.

As I said Clio 182 does both very well.
