Dodgy alarm on Cup - HELP

Had the car less than 2 weeks and the alarm randomly goes off. After its gone off and I lock the car it wont arm itself but gives a constant tone (not particularly loud) as if its reporting theres an error or that one of the circuits hasnt been closed (eg: bonnet switch). If the car is left long enough (unlocked, alarm not set) after a false alarm, it then seems OK.

Anyone experienced something similar or got any ideas about what the cause may be ?

Cheers.

the constant tone means one of the alarm triggers is active EG-bonnet,door or boot switch.check your bonnet one first they sometimes get disloged from the scuttle panel and stick open.how many flashes do you get from your led when you disarm after it has gone off(the number of flashes will tell you whats triggered it)

Mine had the same problem, does it beep around 3 or 4 times? Theres a code in the hand book that tells you what the beeps mean. I took mine to the garage and they sorted it with no trouble.

On the Evo long termer they had an alarm problem...kept going off all the time. It was traced to water in the alarm in the end I think.

Can anyone describe where the alarm is on a Cup/172...just like to check mine to see if its getting soaked?

Im having the exact same problem!!! It seems to be when the car has got warm on a good run and as it cools down it sets the alarm off.

But renault cant fit my car in till the new year!!!!!!!!!!!! So i have a choice of either bin on neighbours from hell with my alarm goin off all the time or lock the car without setting the alarm and voiding my insurance!!:mad: Oh and i have to travel nearly 25 miles to a garage with an alarm specialist and then pay £20 for the privalidge of a courtesy car as theres will be booked out!

:mad::mad:

Im so glad Renault customer service is top notch or i may be gettin annoyed!!! (sarcasm by the way)

I experienced a number of similar problems with the alarm system on my Dynamique+ 1.4 from Day 1. Numerous trips to the local dealership proved useless - I was given many possible solutions or causes of the fault, and they tried on 3 occasions to reset the alarm system. I was later told my the Renault alarm engineer that there is *no* way of resetting the alarms on the latest Clios.

Sent a letter off to Renault UK, and about 3 weeks later I had a brand new alarm fitted. No problems since then.

In short, there are known problems with the Clio alarms. See if youre able to disable the interior ultrasonics it by doing the turn the ignition on and off, on and off (I think 3 times?) and then lock the car within 10 seconds. If you hear a series of beeps, then the sensors are disabled. Then try locking the car with the window open and wave your hand through - if the alarm goes off, then its buggered and needs replacing. Cobra (the alarm manufacturers) admitted defeat once I told Renault this.

Good luck, and dont give up.:)

If you turn the key in the ignition 3 times on off on off on off. then get out the car and press the fob, youll her a long buzzing, that then lets you know that the cars some off the more sensitive parts of your alarm system are turned off, this help particularly if your parked on a busy road, so your alarm doesnt sound every time a heavy lorry passes etc etc
