Dodgy clicking noise from engine 1.4rt

1991 H reg 1.4 rt, 49k, getting a dodgy clicking noise from under the bonnet, just by the air filter, looks like it might be the auto choke going? Anyone else had similar problem?

I know 47k when I got it, I reckon its been clocked tbh, the bit of the speedo which u can reset doesnt reset :-/

But yeah any help on the clicking noise? :S

oops yeah sorry, I think its continuous, but you can still hear it quite loudly when the engine is switched off, just a continueous clicking noise several times a second.

My old diesel clio did this, then a few weeks later the engine wouldnt start, and its been there ever since. I havent had time to investigate the problem, neither do i know if the clicking noise had anything to do with it.

Bugger, my engine has trouble starting sometimes, takes a few seconds compared to a week ago when it started straight away :-/
