Does my 172 import have an alarm

  Mk2 172

I have a 172 import that originally came from "trade-sales".

I have read other posts that mention when they arrive and go to the show room they are fitted with locking wheel nuts, and an alarm.

As it came from Trade Sales, will it have an alarm?

Probably not...

But the way to tell for sure is to check if you have the ultrasonics mounted on the pillars at either side of the windscreen.

some importers will fit alarm and locking wheel nuts so that it is as a UK car - others may not - you do need to check

No Way

If Trade-Sales would supply a car without wheels if they thought they could get away with it!! You will have an immobiliser although not recognised as a CAT2 because its an import although if you get a 2-1 alarm upgrade and convince the bloke to sign the certificate then you sorted.

Get a Cobra itll work of the original key fob.

errr sorry, are you sure were talking about the same place!?!?!?!

In Slough run by a load of wa**ers?? Ok prehaps thats a little harsh, the place is fine as long as you by your car over the phone and dont have 2 talk face 2 face with anyone who works there.

Im VERY suprised if your car did come with an alarm (did they fit it at camelion accross the raod?) But then i have been wrong b4

If it has an alarm, would it have an extra flashing light like my old RT had?

(I bought it 2nd hand from a guy in reading, so it was probably Slough he got it from)

ARSE! Gotta get an alarm now. I shall see what Cobra dealers are around. Or would it be best to go to a renault dealer?

insurance point, not having an alarm, just the factory fit immobiliser doesnt effect the insurance one bit, just your piece of mind, i rang round ten major companies, explained the broker situation etc, none of them had a problem with it...... when reselling however putting a cat 1 alarm will definately help htough...

mine came from them and didnt have an alarm and i had no idea untill recently, because its still got a flashing light!!!?? anyway just booked a clifford solaris for tuesday:eek:)

i know that motorpoints imports have no alarm and 1 year less warranty but not all importers will be the same, at the end of the day thats one of the reasons you get them so cheap

I have an imported 172 which also came with a Cat 1 alarm and locking wheel nuts, which my dealer had fitted for me and it also has a 3-year unlimited RAC warranty, but my car wasnt as cheap as some on here as it cost a little over £13,000, so I guess you get what you pay for!

Apparently none of the Renaults which arrive in the UK have alarms already fitted. There is a company at Southampton docks which fits them for the dealers and as for other garages. it is up to them what they do and if the customer doesnt mention alarms, then I dont suppose the supplier is going to either, as we all know what they are like!!

Regarding Trade Sales, it might be best to mention the alarm system to them!!
