Does oil have a shelf life / use by date?

Hi all,

Just purchased some Shell Helix Ultra 5W40 Fully Synth oil and got it home only to see this particular bottle was made 3 and a half years ago! August 2010. Is it still ok to use or should I take it back? obviously its sealed and just been sat on shelf.

if it hasn't been opened no, it will be exactly the same as it was when it left the factory. regardless of when it was made, more so when it's fully synthetic. oil will last almost indefinately. the biggest give away to back this up is the fact that there is no expiry date on the bottle!
