A friend of mine has stuck a supercharger and throttle bodies onto his 106 GTi, quite a famous car now (Flaming Bannana) Its bright yellow with carbon ronnet, roof and boot! and that thing SHIFTS! got one fot he quickest FWD 0-60 times at a show the other day!

Its alow of money and very unreliable, but if its a toy and not your prime way of getting around, i would highly reccomend it!

at the end of the day its your money ann if you wanna get a 106 then its up to you but like most [people have said just buy something like a golf or similar - its just too much of a waste throwing 15k at something like that

Just tear up your license and through it in the bin. Trust me will do you a favour! Sounds like you will never be happy. Someone else will always be quicker than you get over it and keep the money in your pocket.

ColinG. Your problem, I think is the same as mine was, a lust for the kind of performance that you can't really afford.

You can do what I did. Get into super bikes.

You will really scare yourself silly, because the performance is mind blowing. Yes, you are vulnerable and death awaits you round every corner, but if you survive your baptism of fire, it could get the speed monkey off your back.

Certainly did it for me.

Seen a Cosworth engined 106 in a recent issue of Practical Performance Car...looked almost factory fitted

Have you lost it mate? sorry but would never ever ever sell a mk1 v6 and do up a 106. the vee IS ten million times better then the fastest 106 in the world. Car ownership, especially in the case of a Clio V6 is not all about how fast you can blat down a dual carriage way as there will always be a car flashing its lights at you to move over. You will never own the fastest car on the road. Its not just financial suicide but your willing to sell a potential classic and then waste your money on chaving up a 106. Good luck to you if you do, but a clio v6 gets attention and respect from people who don't even know about cars and thats what I love about the Vee. you might have the fastest 106 but people (like myself) will just think boy racer as it thunders past.

If I had a vee I would'nt even entertain a 'faster' 106 trying to race me. I'd just move over, smile to myself knowing i've got the better car and wave at him as he plants it into a wall because the cars come to a corner it can't go round. Sorry keep the vee or just sell it if you cant afford it, get a 106 gti and keep it standard.

nail head

car ownership isnt just about performance. If performance is your thing get a car that is fast in the first place.

selling the vee for the 106 would be the biggest mistake you make imo, so what that they could beat you down the 1/4 ............and who actually gives a f**k.

what makes me laugh about that saxo vid is, I bet the guy in the m3 went, fair enough but who goes home in luxury and style lol

Hmm, why is it that straight line speed, and being beaten off some bland, overweight, turbocharged, chipped lardarse "hot hatch" all that seems to matter to some people :S

If you want speed, you would be best off seeking out a Mk1 or Mk2 Golf GTI with an Audi TT conversion and the work already done for you, IMO.

TBH, I wouldnt care that I was being beaten by some tuned turbo VAG car if I had a V6 though. I'd be driving it for the involvement, the noise, the exclusivity, etc... buying one for straight line speed is missing the point

i know this would be a complete money loss..but..as special as the vee is..its mediocre performance doesnt justify its stupid petrol consumption and high insurance (for a 21 year old) and i know from experience that s/c gti's/vts's are extremely fast!

I agree as far as the Vee is concern... but cant agree that putting your money into a 106 is a good idea

i have seen the light guys...it doesnt make financial sense to do it whilst i can only run one car...maybe in the future when i could have a 106 as a toy...

now..i must go for another drive in that 197...why is getting a new car such fun??

Go out there and drive as many cars as possible.....after driving somehting something s special as the Vee i think the 197 might be a bit of come down. just my opinion.

having been part of the saxo scence for the last 6 years, i have seen many supercharged cars using GMC's kit. Infact my mate has a s/c VTR using thier kit.

whilst the power gains are impressive, i am yet to see one that runs consistently. There is always soemthing breaking on them, whether it be gearbox, engine, electrics.

i am also mates with Simon Berry (aka Sybez) who owns a yellow 106gti, which runs GMC supercharger, and jenvey throttle bodies. As far as i know, one of the most powerful 106's in the counrty. Basically, that car is in the garage being repaired more than its on the road. and he has put around 17k into that engine (from start toi finish).

If you do it right, and dont go too OTT with the boost, they can run ok, but that means spending thousands on forged pistons, a decent ECU, plus all the rest.

and as you have said, you will need 4 pots, decent suspension, plus all the extra to go with the engine, IE: decent exhaust (BTB due the best for saxo/106).

basically, i would get on Saxo Sports Club and ask lots of questions, as its not all that peachy!!

Good you know it make sense!! Its money down the pan. I'm not trying to be a kill joy but soemtimes you do need to think a bit more about things sometimes. Not sure going down the 197 route is a great idea but its better then slapping it into an un-reliable modded up to the eye balls 106 !!

I havent read every page of this thread, but if u'r looking to spend around £15k wouldnt it be less costly to buy a 172 (for around the £6k) then take it to K-Tec for there stage 1 turbo conversion (260BHP £6k) then you would need to upgrade the usual parts to deal with that extra power. But thats the route I would go with.. I may even do this if I ever decide to sell the 5GTT.. as there's only so much I have left to do with it as my current project.. may think about this next year.
