Door card black sticky sh1t

Had my door cards off today, fitting the replacement outer window rubbers. Got the glass out both sides and it was strangely satisfying removing 20+ years of grime off the leading edges of the glass. Cleaned up in there too and the windows now raise and lower much more smoothly than before. Nice surprise that apart from the usual dust and debris, the insides of both doors were in remarkably good condition.

Anyways - to obviously remove the cards meant peeling it away from that god-awful black silicone type crap. Is it imperative that this gets replaced? I was thinking of removing as much as possible and replacing the areas with strips of thick, one-sided foam. However, if I do need to replace this gunk, what's the best option?

Thanks all.

Looks like there was once an official membrane out for Renaults - though I'm not sure if this is for Mk2 Clios.

Tbh, with fresh butyl tape around the back of the door card - I would have thought that that would act just as effectively?

Also, is it worth electrical taping the wires in there too? By some absolute miracle, neither doors appear to hold any corroded cables within them. I was thinking of wrapping them in tape and maybe if/where suitable, perhaps cable tie them to any holes for extra support.

Followed MrCube182's thread on here and ordered some fresh clips too.
