Dr Jekyll's BG182 Project Thread

Jekyll

ClioSport Club Member
Hi all,

I thought I'd restart my progress thread mainly because i lost all my pics in my previous thread and to just give it a general tidy up :) Ill try and keep it in order of parts aquired but ill probably get all muddle up when uploading the pics!

I started off looking for a 182 at the end of 2010. I'd had a bg182 a few years before so i was set on either that or a rb182. Unfortunately no rb's were resonably local within budget. I eventually found a clean bg in cambridge in december 2010. Car was standard barring a knackered K-tec carbon splitter, nearly touching 51k, some service history, and owned by a member off here. Unfortuantely i dont have any pics while it was like that.

The car was originally up for £4600, then £4100 and after a look we settled on a final figure of £3700 :) I had to wait till early jan to pick it up but that gave me some time to do a bit of research of a few bits i wanted (although a few kept turning into a few more lol) and to join here :)

The first thing i wanted was a better exhaust. Being a daily i didnt want anything too loud so i opted for a scorpion rs192 non decat system.

A few pics of me and my dad swapping it over:

I also noticed my exhaust mounts were shagged and seen as there was a reanult dealership directly across the road, i purchased 2 new exhaust mounts and fitted them.

Next i bought myself a new K-tec carbon splitter, silvervisions all round, some eibach sportlines, pipercross viper induction kit and a carbon engine cover. (2nd hand off ebay for around £50!) I then took it down to a local spraypainters (www.customexotics.co.uk) to them spray my wheels and side bullets in blackgold with the "2.0 16v" and calpiers front and rear done in red, and have all the parts fitted and cover re-buffed :)

I had my mountain bike up for sale but with no joy. The sale was going to pay towards some coilovers and 2118's. Then got a pm off a member off here to say he was interested in a swap with my wheels and bike for he's cup packed vmaxx and anthracite 2118's. We set the deal and off i popped back up to Newcastle to pic them up :)

Pics old old bike: (This is where i got my user name and carried on the black/red theme)

These were cod liver oil bottle lids that i had done as i found with a little slice that they fit nicely in the centers off the 2118's and decided to have these as center caps, alhough i didnt think it looked right after a while as they stuck out too far so i removed them.

Also got a set of harnesses while they was on offer at my local halfords. To stop the seatbelt beeping i undid the clip and wiggled the 2 metal stems apart so they dont touch. I used the original mounting points for the fronts and the rear ive put in the isofix mounts and bolted the isofix bar on top. I have also kept my original seatbelts in "just in case":

I recently had a knocking on the rear and picked up some trophy dampers for £20 which sorted that out.

The car is not mint. Infact i think its looking a tad tired. As of this moment the car is coming up 9 years old and is on 70k but seen as im keeping this for a few years longer i plan to get it looking really clean with a few mods and more goodies along the way. After all, this is a project thread :)

Thanks for reading,

Mark

Your car looks awesome, how do you rate v-max coilovers interested in them myself

Thanks :) The vmaxx's are ok but nothing more than that. They are more crashy than my sportlines but compared to the ever slight more expensive gaz's there not as good imo. Under heavy braking the car does feel more planted and not so twitchy on the rear and are good for lows but unless you get a decent priced 2nd hand set I'd go for the gaz's or for little extra money the spax's. The vmaxx's are only height adjustable also.

Yeah ill still be there. Hopefully it will be cleaned and look ok!

Time for some power upgrades, looking good as always.

I know Dom. I'm concentrating in the body work first then engine after that I think.

I know! Although when I actually met the chap he was about 6ft2" and me being a little lad meant my bike frame was quite small so I did worry that I might have made a 250 mile journey for him to back out. Fortunately it paid off :)

Got a few things I want to get done next year:

Get roof sprayed. The reason for this is that 1. I have a dent in the roof and 2. The windscreen rubbers are ruined and don't sit in the grooves as they should but on the roof themselves and have been glued down leaving markings. Ill upload a pic tomorrow showing this :(

Get a new carbon splitter as mine is very stone chipped and is recently cracked :(

Get a new carbon rear bump strip as this one has pulled away from the original plastic.

Get both bonnet and front bumper sprayed as the have 70k's worth of stone chips. These are all things that I will be getting done to get it up to standard, body wise.

The car is oil changed regularly by myself but the downfall with that is no stamp in service history in the book. Ill do an oil change and change coolant in the next few weeks seen as I already have a spare bottle of elf oil. Ill probably get it garage serviced by a trader off her next year.

I currently have this come up:

This warning light comes on every 2/3 months due to the decat (my 2nd lambda is clipped in but the sensor part is tucked in the heatshield) but goes off after 2/3 days, however its stayed in recently. It seemed to be running oddly too, holding the revs at 3k-ish for a couple seconds then picking up again. Im not sure what the "T" means. Plugged it into a members code reader and it came up with this:

F8B1747C-31CE-4517-8D64-7B3C84C049E7-929-0000013E370D4D61.gif

I googled it and looked on here and it came up with 02 oxygen sensor. I swapped both my lambda sensors over. It hasn't hesitated on revs since and seems to drive ok but the dash light remains. Dmallett off here is sending me a couple of lamda sensors he's got. I gave it a full tank on Friday and reset the trip computer. I have been driving normally for the past couple of days but the mpg seems to be going down from my normal average of 34mpg to 29mpg. It also seems to smell richer on tickover. Any thoughts?

also chuckled at using the lids as centre caps :approve:

It was worth a try seen as 2118's don't have center caps. I have since just painted the centres black.

I will one day get a set of center caps. The problem is the front hub nuts stick out further that the rears meaning you can't have anything flush against the wheel like you can on the back. I guess the answer could be to get a domed set of caps off another car but you'll have to find the correct size.

Im not giving up the idea yet though lol

Knuckles

ClioSport Admin
whats the diameter of the centre cap 'gap' and how deep are they?
do you know anyone with a lathe? i could draw them up for you if you like?

lol my mates polo was the opposite, he stuck some wheels on the front and was well chuffed, then stuck them on the rear and the caps went flying :p

Got Ady from n2grafix to make me up some team f1 stickers to go under the side repeaters (although im having second thoughts so i'll put one in the engine bay and one under the clio badge on the boot.) I didnt want them in the traditional colour as i have a bit of a black/red theme going on so i got him to make them like this:

8230296039_fe38d75e8f.jpg

IMG_1257 by Dr-Jekyll, on Flickr

I also fancied doing something in the rev counter. I originally wanted the above stickers in there but Ady coulnt do them that small but said he could do the RS decal. He sent me these free of charge! Question is do i go red or silver?

8230296119_c56b164279.jpg

I decided that since putting on the sachs's the rear was too raised to i dropped the rear adjusters from level to the lowest:

After

IMG_1274 by Dr-Jekyll, on Flickr

Although looking at it i think its a tad too low at the rear and from the side the car looks a little flat/level. I think i'll up the adjuster halfway from the before and afters. Im happy with my fronts so dont really want to drop them as its low(ish) but still practical.

Also got my Gtechniq C4 through the post so i'll do the plastics. Ill probably do this sat morning. Its small bottle and was around £25 but its quite highly rated and has a minimum life expectancy of 2yrs plus. Ive probably spent more than that with "black to black" and that comes off after a coouple of washes :(

8230301273_7d9c22ce02.jpg

IMG_1278 by Dr-Jekyll, on Flickr

Also i see dan@mad was doing both front top strut covers and battery covers at a great price so i enquired and i got them done in black. They came today so i put them on. They are a great bit of kit and look good, which my phone didnt seem to capture very well :( The battery cover also has a thin rubber mat stuck to the underside for extra peice of mind. The strut covers are nicely machined and sit really snug over the struts. Im happy with them and would recommend them to anyone that wants to tidy up the bay :)

That's what I don't want it to look like. I want to keep it subtle-ish.

I took a side pic earlier this morning that I will post in a bit. I do think the rear needs to come up a bit but not sure on the front, whether it should come down a tad or leave it. Can you post that side pic of yours in here so I can compare?
