Driveshaft knocking?

Hi,

Today I hear some king of a metal knocking on my 172 Clio when releasing the acceleration. When I keep a constant speed or accelerate there is no knocking, but when release the throttle it starts to knock proportional to the speed. The noise change a little when the clutch is pressed, but is still there. When I lift the car and spin the left (UK passager side) I can hear that knock on a full 360 spin two times, always in the same position.
Anyone could help me?
Thanks a lot,
Radu

CV joint could be buggered. Or possibly the wheel bearing.

Take the shaft out and investigate. Not too difficult but you will need to drain the gearbox oil

The wheel bearing seems to be fine, the knock appears to be on gearbox side.
If it is the CV joint, is there a repair kit or I need a new driveshaft?
Thanks

Driveshafts are cheap as chips for these. I forget the company but I read on here of a company making some good ones for about 40 quid.

Well I'd take it off first to investigate, rotate the joint and see it feels duff. No point changing it without knowing for sure that's the cause

I take of the driveshaft to look for the problem. On the left side is a clip and under it a ring. When the clip fails, the ring broke. How can I find a ring to replace it?

I replace the circlip and ring. The ring was broken, but sadly a small part goes into the box and I think it does smash a teeth. That is why when leaving the throttle it sound like a rattle. I found the small broken part in the oil, but it was half of the original size:)). So...a new gearbox, right?

Which circlip do you mean?

The one from last picture. Not the Clip one which use a tool to put in place, the O one. I left with just the circle and the little tab goes into gearbox.

The O was broke and the tap goes into box and the C left into the boot, but the Circlip stays in place, just a little bend, but was there and the tripod did not come off.

Lost something in translation there.

The missing piece was in the box and when I drain the oil I found it, well, half of it. So it was a sign that some teeth from the box are damaged. I can hear them when releasing the throttle. Sorry, but my english is not so good and did not know lots of mechanical terms.

I don`t know your location, but necessity is the Mutha of all invention.
There`s some history here, and that`s a piston ring if I`m not mistaken.
Drive it till spit`s something out.

I replace both parts, but there is knocking into the gearbox...when off the throttle.
