Driveshaft popped out

  Peddled device
Never do anything by torchlight :(

My passenger side driveshaft has popped out. It's dumped some oil when the gator slipped off. I seem to have pushed it back in with little effort and it'll just need the gator resecuring. It seems to be in okay, but should I do anything else apart from the gator and top up the gearbox oil ?

Yes all that holds the passenger side drive shaft in is the suspension. Just drain the remaining gearbox oil, get a drive shaft clip from your local motor-spares (bigger one of the two) and 2 liters of gearbox oil to fill it back up.

The was jacked up high on that side. I managed to release the clip, slide the gator on and resecure the clip. I put a litre in as it looks like only just over one came out. Cheers

sorry to bump a thread like this but:

my 1.2 has just done this, the driveshaft seems to have popped so far out of the gearbox but hasn't spilled any oil etc, the gaiter is still intact, the only visible damage is the seemingly split CV boot, should I be able to just wiggle it back in or will it have borked the side that sits in the gearbox?

whilst ticking over you can hear the gearbox still making contact with the end of the driveshaft but not strong enough for it to spin etc...

If he is draining the rest, doesn't he need 3 liters?

nope, went to set off from a junction.....

it is still in one piece, the gaitor is fine, and no oil dropped, but the CV boot has split (will get that and the dogbone mount seen to anyway)

well i am no mechanic  best of asking one of the traders or anyone besides me for useful info haha

Something's not right obviously, be it engine mounts, knackered driveshaft or worn balljoint etc, there is always the potential for anything to be damaged when something fails. We could tell you things to check for until the cows come home, if you don't have much savvy there's not much point. If you can pop it back in then take it to someone that's in the know.

you should be able to pop it back in, but something is obviously worn out, there should be no way that it would spit itself out, if its popped out and no oil has come out then you want to be putting some in, no running your gearbox dry. and idealy you want to take it out and check that you havent stripped the splines on the end of the drive shaft. if they have you wont be able to push it back in anyway

I'm savvy enough to fix it if I knew what to look for, the ball joint on that side and the dogbone mount are worn, I will check the end of the driveshaft and no oil has come out because it is still filling the hole mate, its just popped out far enough to be 'disconnected'

Turns out that it hasn't popped out.... Had a proper look and the driveshaft has snapped inside the gaitor just before it turns into the ball with splines on... No other visible damage so I will be replacing the driveshaft and dogbone mount this week to rectify all current issues with my sh*tbox lol

Cheers for the advice anyway guys
