Drunk driver rear-ended my 172!!!

Friday night sitting in traffic after picking girlfriend up from work. No traffic behind - suddenly got ploughed into by a drunk driver. I shunted into the car in front (brand new Saab).

The drunk mailto:w@nker">w@nker scraped all down the side of a new BMW at the same time as hitting back right-hand corner of my car. First crash for me so a bit shaken up.

Scratched and severely dented my boot, smashed all of my rear-right lights, the force of the crash seems to have dented the back right hand section of the panel down the side of the car (just up to the petrol cap). as a result, the wheel arch is now pushing on the wheel - I whimpered home 2kms and parked it at my flat. Me and my girlfriend got minor whiplash - going to claim against the tw*t.

Police breathtested him - apparently way over the limit. statements taken and all that jazz.

Insurance will pay out (theyve confirmed already) - sooooo mailto:f@cked">f@cked off with the selfish c*nt for mailto:f@cking">f@cking 3 other cars!!

Read some of the threads for other crashes recently(sorry to hear about that boys - hope everything sorts itself) - but at least girfriend and i are safe.

whats best now???? I live in Australia - insurance company here said i should just go to a normal panel beaters and get it all sorted. Do you think i should go to a renault specialist? does it invalidate my warrenty if i dont? I all new to this so appreciate your help at this time.

I was in OZ 2 weeks ago and it seems to me that a high % of Australians dont see anything wrong in drink driving, its very scary!

go to the best place with the best record for being best! I think you should check with warranty/renault and maybe email them or something just to be sure about that. You want it to be put back to how it was before the idiot crunched it. Whereabouts in Australia are you based? Im thinking of coming over with my girlfriend this summer to Brisbane.....

Just got a motor journo (a mate of mine) to recommend best place for repairs. He did, saying last time he was there it was full of ferarris, maseratis, Mercs etc..

dropped it in this afternoon. the director there reckons theres 9 grands worth of damage (about 4 thousand quid!!!!!!). On closer inspection it seems to have affected the bonnet and front grill etc..

here comes the worst bit - because im in australia he reckons itll take minimum 4 weeks!!! sh*T!!!! MINIMUM 4 weeks.

he was top bloke though and while i was there saw an Audi RS6, numerous M3s, SL55, and a Cooper S . Basically - at least im in good hands.

should sort a courtesy car out soonish.

be careful, if your car has been crushed between 2 cars, your chassis maybe bent. if you cant close your doors correctly then that would be a sure case of a write off i would think. They should have sent out an inspector to measure the damage. sounds like your 172 may have seen its day to me.

get it written off by the assessors and get a new car.

I wouldnt want to drive about in a smashed but repaired new car, I woudl on a 10 year old motor no bother but with a new car I would want a replacement.

You will also find there will be suspension damage etc and you will lose faith in it.

I hate to hear of drink driving - I always make a point of not touching a drop anytime before I know Im gonna be driving.

If it hasnt been inspected yet take a sledge hammer to one of the pillars of the car and get her wrote off and get a brand new replacement, i wouldnt want to drive round in a nearly new car thats been repaired.
