Dry ice blasting

Anyone had the underside of a car dry ice blasted recently?

Had a quote from a local place to do the underside of my Clio.. just the blasting, no post blasting treatment or underseal etc.

They want £1100?! Seems like strong money for what can't amount to more than a day's work, I was expecting it to be around half of that..

A days’ work; £200
Ramp, electric, rates, waste, tax, Dry ice machine, dry ice, tools, insurance…

The machines and the ‘stuff’ are mental money.

I actually think £1100 is quite good??

Where was that? I want my Orion doing.

The dry ice is pretty expensive from what my mate said when he was looking at setting up.

30kg of it in pellet form is <£100, I've got no idea how much you'd use doing a floorpan 🤷‍♂️

I fully understand there's a cost of doing business, I may have been optimistic/way off the mark which is fine, it just felt a bit spicy when you can get a full body shell media blasted for around £1500 (yes I know it's a completely different process)

That quote was from a place called frostworks in Newcastle.

They went all out on that name didn’t they! 👌🏽😂

Do they have social media for some pics?
Honestly, if they’re doing what I assume they’re doing, I think £1100 is a really good price.

TBH if is was a 20k car I wouldn't baulk at the price, but i don't think it's worth it on a Clio, I'll probably just get it as high off the ground as I can on some tall axle stands and attack it with some chemicals, a drill brush and the pressure washer.. then probably hate my life half way through and wish I'd just coughed up the money

Have you got quotes from anywhere that does soda blasting?

At least give you something to compare to

Looking at £250 an hour.

For an idea it's probably 2 hours to do a full engine bay properly.

My mate tried to get into it but after 6 months gave up and sold the gear. People don't want to pay the price it seems.

I’d bloody love to have my Cayman done. Just so I had a clean slate to maintain. Whilst I understand it’s quite cost heavy, I wouldn’t pay over a grand for it….but then I am a renowned tight arse
