DYNAMIQUE ABS query

  H22A7 Accord Type R

ok...........lately my brake pedal feels a tad strange!? if i oush it quite far down, i can feel a CLICK through the pedal............im sure it never used to do this?? does anyone else notice this? it feels like a switch or someting.............????? but when braking hard, when i get to this clicking point, the pedal pulses away annoyingly like the abs is cutting in??????? iwas doing 90mph and breaking last night - in a straight line- and it started juddering..........is the ABS system OVER-ACTIVE in this car????? i mean surely my toyos cant have been losing so much traction?!?!!? weird!!!! bloody annoying! so does anyone else have this click??? or wonder what it would be???? ps i have just had the brake lights re-adjusted to it cant be the switch for that...........does the ABS have a switch in the pedal????? advice please gents! come on people..............lol, dont tell me its another trip to reno.........they said no fault found when i mentioned it to them last time it was in..........!?!?

Have you checked your tyre pressures? I would think they would have to be a good way out but the modern tyre pressure monitors actually mesaure the relative speed of the wheel just like the ABS sensor. An under inflated tyre might give a reading considerably higher than the other three tyres and cause the ABS judder. Just theory of course, Ive never experienced it.

interesting point, as i have put 195/50 tyres on to replace the standard 185/55............????? hmmm

Interesting fact for you, not related, but the 1.2 16V has the same discs as a clio 1.8 16V and uses R5GTT pads

yeah I noticed this a while back, took the renault mechanic out to show him (scared the crap out of him!) and he said its the brake distribution thingy keeping the car in a perfect straight line (as best as possible). You have to make sure tyre pressure is identical on both wheels though cos this causes probs.

Nice to know about the GTT pads, now I can get some better pads and discs, will have to start wearing out the ones that are on now ;). if the car cant go any quicker I may aswell reduce my braking distance!

thanks for the advice SoLow, i had a feeling u wud be able to offer some assistance, Cheers, Rob

Massively over sensitive grrr could stop far far quicker and more in control without it in the dry.

One day in the wet swerving around school children or deer then I will probably appreciate it, until then....

The ABS does seem to cut in a bit early on mine. The weird thing is there is plenty of grip available which is usually highlighted when the "brake assist" kicks in.

one thing I can say is I have had to use the ABS twice now to avoid a car and a three year old little girl! Both times the car has acted perfectly and really helped in what could have been a BIG accident. First time with the car I actually thought I had hit him and just not realized the car went round so well, guy in the car even admitted that the car stopped fin quick.

Little girls parents were actually watching her run into the road when I had to jam the brakes on and swerve, they thought she was under the car cos she had ran to MY side of the road from the other side and I had to swerve round her, dont think they will be so useless any more......

.....i think i have worked this out!!! i have 195/50 tyres on the front, and 185/55 on the back, now these will have different overall rolliing radius, so the 2 fronts will be rotating faster than the rears.......agree?????? thus knocking the EBD out a bit???? Luckily im gettin the whoile car shoed with 195/50 Toyos on Saturday......hopefully fix it!! any thoughts???? Rob :)

Interesting...... Does our cars have EBD then I only thought that was the 172s that had it????? Mine works fine with the front tyres being 195 50s

  H22A7 Accord Type R

yeah abs & ebd...... i just notice my brake pedal juddering when it feels likle it shouldnt be......the dynamique models definately have ABS n EBD..is yours a dynamique Steve? or have u got the older version? Ill find out if it is that after tomorrow........it makes sense as the EBD looks as the rotation speed of each wheel, in i will have 2 wheels rotatating at a diferent speed to the other two........im trying to convince myself lol

EBD..... mmmmm well mines a 02..... I really cant remember if it did have it or not.... I swear they 1.2s didnt have it... how you actually know you got it?

  H22A7 Accord Type R

come as standard on all Clios i believe......ABS & EBD is a combined package with them, im 99% certain

  H22A7 Accord Type R

yeah ive onl got smart wipers too.....had a courtesy car wi auto lights n wipers......annoyed me to be honest lol.......Just think steve.......those toys just add more weight ;)

thats the only consilation I have. First car I drove with auto wipers scared the crap outta me as i drove past a lorry and the wipers went mental, didnt know it had them until then!

as far as i can find out the earlier 1.2 16vs may not have ebd, I think this was a 1.4 and above option, in which case who knows whats causing the problem?

i recon the problem is the brakes have more stopping power than they need and that the weekest point in stopping is the tyres

i recon the only fix is to put bigger types ie 205+ and hopefully the abs sensors will relise we have new wider types and stop cutting in

i could realy do with knowing the best way of fixing tis cos im fed up knowing the brakes can stop but its the typres which mean the abs cuts in early

  H22A7 Accord Type R

nah im sure my dynamique has EDB SoLow...its part of the whole abs package, and im sure its standard to ALL new clios

They def do all have EBD & ABS (well dynamique anyway) checked my old brochure for an 02 and it did, got a 52 now. Its brilliant when I am driving a country lane and have to brake sharply and pull half onto a ditch or gravel, you can really feel it working. And it was very good in the snow aswell (although I overdone trying it out when parking and almost slid into a McDonalds wall at about 3 mph!)

I also find the abs/ebd runs when I slow from a high speed sometimes.

I have 205s on the front and it dont happen that often but if I brake sharply from about 80 it stops fecking well, only get a slight abs intrusion if I really nail the pedal

  H22A7 Accord Type R

i guess u have 205s on the rear also tho solow......im gettin some more 195/50 toyos for the back today anyway, so all will be running the same profile and have the same rolling radius by the end of today! ill see if that makes a difference!!! PS if i dont post any more its coz my cold i have is actually SARS lol
