Dynamique Dci 65

Has anyone had any experiece of these

hopefullt i shall be getting one tmrw, and just wondered what i should look out for minus normal wear and tear, its done just shy of 41k.....

Also 65 = 65bhp i am presuming, is it punchy, or am i gonna regret getting it compared to a 1.2 16v dynamique?

Cheers if you can help me

mpg the 65 is miles better than the 16v

the 16v is faster than the dci 65

my first car was a 1.2 8v clio then i got the dci 80 and there was sum difference

afaik the 65 is underrated and sits nearer 70bhp

rumours are that with the DCis things start to go wrong with turbos and injectors after 50k...........

im in the same boat with just doing 31k in 14months - after summer ill near be hitting 50k :(

Ive done a few thousand miles in my mums 1.2 16v Dynamique since it was bought back in summer 2004. In fact, I drove it for 500 miles from 7 miles on the clock lol!

The main thing is that the 1.2 16v Dynamiques are extremely competitively priced by Renault with their offers. My parents down-sized one of their Volvos for the Dynamique and were originally looking for a 1.4 or 1.6 petrol.

However, Renault were offering a finance offer whereby although interest was paid over the term, the full price was the same as the RRP. We spotted that the loaned amount could be paid back early, therefore giving a really cheap deal. So, they got a brand new 1.2 16v Dynamique with metallic paint, air con and climate for £8,100 when they paid back the finance early (full price £10,800) because they had the cash!

Renault couldnt do this offer on the 1.4 or 1.6, so my parents "compromised" with the 1.2.

Anyway, the 1.2 16v drives fine from my point of view and has most of the comfort and toys of my Ph2 172. I get over 50mpg on motorway journeys and it has enough torque to drive below 2500rpm for max economy.

Diesels arent worth it unless you do big miles or like the relaxing way they can be driven. Ive sat down and done the sums and theres very little financial benefit unless you do a lot of mileage or buy a model where the petrol will depreciate a lot more than the diesel (like 4x4s).

Ive got the 65 dci and just like all diesels it gives more than it claime it seem to be abouy 70hp the 80dci gives about 85hp.

Its a good little car its quicker in normal driving than a 1.2 probably quicker than a 1.4 in normal drivng if you push the revs though it would be about as quick as a 1.2 16V though. I much prefere the dci than the 1.2 16V as its more power at the low revs plus the 50% better mpg is there.

What to look out for well check the radiator isnt damaged (Im on me second and this is now damaged). Also just a quick visual check of oil etc mines not burned a drop of oil in 36k.

Not much realy to check a quick check under the arches for mud might be an idea mine picks up loads and it might show a careful owner.

As for injector problems well they can occure at 50k but it might just be down to using cheap diesel. Mine fine after 39k not thad any real problems with it 55mpg over time time Ive owned it and I drive quite hard.

Minimum mpg youll get is 28 and that was on a track. Ive seen 80mpg when driving with care. To put it in prespective when I have 1.2s and I drive normally I get about 32mpg so its about 50% better fuel wise.

Also the dci is a lot quieter on the move Ive found, Ok some people like that but not me personally, 70mph on the motorwway is fine and quiet a 1.2 sounds like its working a lot harder.

Edde - I respect your views a lot, but the mpg figure from your 1.2 experience is very low! Both my other halfs 1.2 8v and my mums 1.2 16v average in the 45-55mpg region (they dont drive that carefully either!).

My 172, 16V and Williams have all averaged better than 32mpg - even given "fun" driving.

The 1.2s are not in any way "quick" cars on the motorway, so I tend to drive them below 70mph. In the same way as you modify your driving to adapt to low revs boost in a diesel, I do the same with the baby petrol Clios and drive as smoothly as possible!

If Renault could do a DCi for the same price as a 1.2 16v, then it would be a strong contender. But theyre too profitable due to the demand - hence the real price difference is greater than the nominal sticker prices. Consider carefully this matter if the miles are low!
It seems that the original poster is going from a 172. Driving low spec Clios as much as I drive my Ph2 172 makes me think that this is a very extreme move! The mpg from a 1.2 is about 40% better than from a 2.0, but Id say be very careful. The cash costs may be £30-50 lower for fuel (assuming 1,000 miles a month), but the depreciation will be worse absolutely and relatively.

I have to say I do drive hard and can see why people get 50mpg out of 1.2s as it is easy but on the same ground a dci should be about 50% more economical. However the saving depends how you drive and the milage you do. If Id have driven more carefully in my dci vs 1.2 the saving wouldnt be as big as they have worked out.

You do need to do the numbers though dci vs 1.2 and best drive them both.

I will admit though for all the dci advantages Im looking at 2.0 power at the moment.

Ive got the dCi 65, and have also driven the 1.2 16v, they seem pretty equally matched in terms of speed, but the dCi feels quicker and is much more fun to drive IMHO. The dCi is my first diesel car, and Id definitely buy another. The increased MPG really helps too, I usually get 50-55mpg on average.

Make sure you check its not losing oil, and that its got a full service history. Mine has had no real problems in the 39 months/47000 miles that Ive had it.

Not, the DCI 65 may pull a little better due to it having more torque but in terms of fun factor the 1.2 16v is best as the engine is far more revvy, the DCI i test drove felt alot slower and heavier on the road and didnt seem to handle as well. But if its MPG your going for then it has to be the DCI.

flip me how hard must u drive to only get 50-55mpg

i drive hard up to the limits and round corners etc... and with the tunning box in and driving hard the lowest mpg i got was 56mpg

normalish driving with the t-box was round 60-64mpg

and thats in a dci 80

well problem i have is i am not going to see the car as itll be bought at auction for me

but im hopefully getting it cheaper than say what itd be sold at a garage for, sa ill be buying at trade price

i have to say u lot have scared me know with turbo and injector replacement :( i hope this does not cost alot as im gonna eb strapped for cash for some time after buying this car

Boydie - I think the dCi 80 returns a higher MPG than the dCi 65, so you get the best of both worlds! Quicker car, and higher MPG! I dont thrash my car everywhere, but I dont think Ive ever had over 55mpg from it - Im happy with that anyway :)

well ive put down a 4-5k MAX to get this car

Hoping i wont need to repair it too close in the future..... is the turbo and injectors a costly job? as it certaintly sounds like one.....

2nd hand turbo at a breakers will cost round £300

round £1100 from renault new tho

JESUS

i really hope it does not go then!!!

is it something that will go,, or just a chance that it could go around 50k?

Highest MPG I have got out of my 1.2 16v was 57mpg going down to brummy to get a zorst from Fred!

Normal driving I get around 45mpg and thrashing...erm high 30s, cant remember.

I have never driven a diesel but i can still tell when there is a diesel engine is under the hood, some are still kinda loud IMO.

it seems i may of misread.... Injectors seem to be the possible problem at 50k,, now do these GO!,.... or is it a case of the MIGHT go????

They might go. Some are still going strong at 140k other last 50k.

Id guess its down to the fuel used cheap supermarket etc stuff is probably to blame for injectors failing.

Was this anythin to do with the Big Iain School of Driving by any chance? ;)

So in reality, the problems may not occur, but they could occur

hopefully to eliminate the problem ill use shell diesel when and where i can...

and if things need to be replaced.. spose thats just life :(

Misses wants a DCI, glad i read this ! some good info

im sure its a car thing u get a good car its normally good for years, get a bad car and its gonna be trouble all the way

bring on the dci

it was 52 reg,,,, i was well shocked

i have a 950cc corsa now until i can find a clio dynamique as i really need a car u see

Just to add that I averaged 40.8mpg in the 172 today, being mixed motorway and A-road with an urban start and finish. I get just over 50mpg in my mums Dynamique on the same route. Can be done!
