dynamique questions + alloy help

  ex Clio 172 owner :(

My sister has just bought a 1.2 16v 03 Dynamique in black. She doesnt get it until April (dont ask) and hasnt driven it yet (again, dont ask) but shes signed for it and is happy.

Some things shes not sure of (nor am I), do they have factory fit alarm or just immobiliser? Does it come with remote central locking?

Main question is the alloys: do them nut cap things have a locking nut holding the cap in place, and then four normal bolts securing wheel? Or is one of the bolts a locking bolt? Its just, to me, if its only the cap that has a locking nut, whats stopping someone smashing it off then using a brace to simply take the wheels off as normal?

Do they have discs all round or just front. I know it has ABS, what about this EBD thing?

Quite impressive spec list to be honest, including side airbags. Better than my VTS, mainly paying for the engine, brakes and handling on that though.

Pics to follow later.

Thanks for the help.

it doesnt have an alarm standard and does have lockin wheels nuts that arent really worth a feck!! IMO!!

Yeah it has remote locking, but no alarm - just immobiliser. Discs at front only, drums at rear.

The cap requires a screw tool which they supply, you get one locking wheel nut per corner. Pretty safe IMHO.

my 52 plate didnt have EBD, it did have 1 locking nut per corner as hip_spasm says, and remote locking and immobiliser but no alarm as tom1600 says

I think the EBD distributes braking force to the wheels that need it most in order to stop quickest without skidding - kind of like the opposite of traction control!

yeah,

1 x locking nut on each wheel AND little key to take plastic trims off. The market for 15s has faded, so not mega theft risk!

the auto-lights and auto-wipers are one of the best features on a Dynamique tho

P.S: tell her to spend £30 on a leather 172 gear knob - the standard plastic ones are orrible!

alarms are optional but not as standard, as are electric sunroofs and aircon. You get 4 renault locking wheel nuts that are hidden behind the center cap, which also requires a simple seperate tool to remove. Yes it does have a immobiliser but i think its only cat2. You can get manufactures upgrade alarms, like the toad which will bring it up to cat1. Central locking as standard, also elec windows/mirrors and auto h/l. EBD just distrubutes the braking pressure between the front wheels to help prevent a skid. Discs at front and drums at the rear. The front discs are more than capable of stoping a 1.2...didnt someone say they can stop 1.6s?

black kro>> yes the gear knob is crap! Reno told me you had to replace the entire stick which is attached to the 172 gear knob to make it safe but you can twist it off with a wrench...but how do you get it back on with it being lift-reverse?

The front discs can indeed stop a 1.6

New Clios have bloomin brilliant brakes I was surprised. I went for an alarm when I got mine, well worth it if youre buying on finance because the payment hardly changes, but even in cash its only about 200 quid and its cat 1.

thanks for all the replies guys.

as for the leather gear stick - forget it! shes actually in need of geting rid of the leather steering wheel while still retaining airbag - shes a strict veggie!

the brakes are built from "the renault parts bin" valver/williams discs with R5GTT pads

plus dependant on which batch the car came from it may also have citreon rear shoes (mine does!!! there are three variants - Lucas TRW, Lucas Girling, and Bosch, just for future reference!!! two are smaller, but i have the larger ones!!!)

Apparently there are also three different oil filters!!! and IIRC about 6 different driveshafts!!! And finally there are three different factory exhausts FOR THE SAME ENGINE!!!!!!

BLOODY RENAULT!!!!!
