Eagle F1 tyre wear

  Golf GTD Mk7
Yes another thread :) I've had a look round on the forum but I can't find anyone saying how long they got out of their eagles on their 182's. I'm currently running PE2's, but due to current costs and lack of funds i'm considering goodyear. Is the wear as good? Do they last?

I had my PE2's fitted in Sept 07 and they have done about 25K and still have tread remaining. Thats with doing Bedford Aerodrome too.

Would I be looking at the same sort of performance/grip and longlastingness (;)) that I'm used to?

Can't comment yet, I've only had mine a couple of months. Would be interested myself tho...

i had f1s n for about 13k then they died on me :(

fantastic grip tho, i dont think ive used a better tyre

Is it? So PE's last twice as long? All the tyres I've had on the 172 seem to last as long as each other; p zero, conti, yoko etc...

just bought two for the front.
getting two for the back next week.

hopefully they will be beasts, like ive heard they are

would you recommend putting best tyres of front or back? i have 2 inferior nankangs and 2 toyos t1rs atm. none are spesh. but what should i put where?

They are immense. Good in dry, impressive in the wet.

Everyone says put your best tyres on the back. I didn't before I had a full set of new tyres. I preferred to have best grip at the front for acceleration and braking in the wet. However I did get A LOT of oversteer when going too fast around corners in the wet.

They are a softer compound tyre so they won't last forever, what do people expect? You want tyres to last go and get some rock hard eco things that'll last 30k but you'll whinge about the grip (or distinct lack of). I've just chucked a set of assymetrics on the meggy and if the fronts see 5k i'll be surprised, but with the grip level they provide I couldn't give a hoot about life tbh.

Amazing tyre! I've been giving mine s**t for about 5 months now and they don't look liek they have lost any tread!

I predict that they will one day just turn into cheese though...

in the wet they are awesome,

amazingly predictable and nearly on par with dry grip.

however they are a huge dissapointment for me in the dry,

had conti sport contacts before

eagle f1's are a REEAAALL dissapointment, they let go soooo much earlier on exactly the same corners.

however they do so in a very predictable way

The GSD3s on my supert's still have a decent ammount of tread on them and they must've covered 10k by now and they got plenty of full use. The fronts on the 225 seem to have lost some tread already after only being on for 4 weeks or so but thats only using fingergauge(tm) so they might not be that bad. But then 270bhp through the front wheels will never be that kind to tyres.

i've got the GSD2's on my 172 (heard these were the better of the 2) and think they are awesome. both in the wet and dry i've had total confidence with them. unsure so far how much mileage I've put on them (had them since may this year) but they look like they have plenty of like still left on them.

if you can find someone who stocks them IMO opt for the GSD2's.

I would have said so yes. For the level of grip they supply, they last ages. I've never used a tyre which is so good and lasted this long. I'll probably get about 28K out of my fronts when I come to change them. Ok, I do alot of motorway miles, but weekend driving makes up for it. They haven't had an easy life is what i'm saying.
