ECM/PCM Processor / P0606 Error code. Help required please.

  Mutliple....
Hi all,

I'm Matt from EZcarsales.co.uk (your car sales made easy)

I am hoping someone on the forum may have encountered this issue I am having and may be able to point me in the rite direction with a cure.

I am receiving the following message on my 2001 Renault Clio 1.2, Registration PJ51ZXW

ECM/PCM Processor / P0606 Error code

Since I have had this issue I have done the following:

Replaced Coil pack
Had new catalytic converter and back box (as was told I had a block from the people who who checked my ECU)
Had top injector loom replaced
Throttle cleaned (so called by people who checked my ECU, replacing this made no difference)
Had the ECU looked at and was told putting a working ECU made no difference to my car (unsure if to believe this)

Symptons are that is takes about 3/4 turns to get the car car started, then it take 5-10 to finds its rhythm, if I press the throttle it will die. Once up and running the car kangeroos at 2,750-3000 revs. It also a has a misfire and you get the occasional pop from the exhaust. Its then pulls OK for a 1.2. The car then does kangeroo if it low down in the revs.

My next thoughts were to clean the throttle or to replace it, or send of the ECU for a retest at another garage.

Your thoughts would be appreciated and what to do next?

Based in Frodsham, Cheshire.

Many thanks,

Matt

For a start that fault means nothing to me.
You need clip test (renault computer). As they will point you in the right direction.
As some non renault machines won't tell you right.

P0606 is an ECM fault. If that is the only code, I would be very dubious of anyone who charged you to change a catalyst. I don't see the link personally. Can you slave another ECM in to see if or works? Personally, I've never seem an ECM fail internally, but that is what this code would suggest.

Hi all,

Thanks Articgoldfish for your post. The only code was the P0606. I have now fitted a new ecu at the cost of £270 pounds, I thought it was better until I had to turn it over 3 times initially to get it started. Then after that trying to start the car after it had been running, nothing. I leave the car for 20 minutes or so then try and turn it over 3/4 times over and it will start for 10 seconds or so (has the occasional pop too) then it will die.

If you get it running and give it some revs it will rev up and hold the revs then die off and cut out.

I have also checked the fuel pump and filter and all is well.

Any ideas?

I have been reading about immobiliser issues.

Many thanks,

Matt

The cars seems to start 1 in 10 or so times, runs for 5/10 seconds or.

The throttle isn't responsive, almost feels as if there is a delay. The car also pop when it is running.

The ECU I have fitted has a immoboliser by pass, I have to wait for the 'coil' light to go out before I can start the car. It only takes 3 seconds or so.

The car has also a cranq shaft sensor.

One error I did receive when I disconnected the back box to see if the cat blocked was the 'Engine temp sensor' error code.

Could this be the fault? I only seen this once.

Many thanks,

Matt

One questing I would like to ask is, Can throttle bodies and or oxygen sensors fail so that you get intermittent stalling or not even being able to get the car started?

New engine temp sensor, map sensor, 02 sensor.

I put the engine temp sensor in last night. Started after the 2nd turn today. Ran for 2 hours. Although when you pressed the throttle, you would have to pump the accelerator to keep it alive.

Turned the engine off put some fuel in, tried to start again.

No joy and would not start.

Any thoughts?

Matt
