ECU CHIPS? - Are they worth getting?

I was thinking about chipping my 172 when it arrives - what are the pro's and con's of chipping and which are the best ones to get?

any help would be great

There's loads of options, depends on what mods you are planning to do.

A remap compliments mods you have.

You may also want to get your car's ECU flashed with the latest software from your Renault dealer. It may make the car run more smoothly if you haven't got the latest version.

Many chips, ECU remaps etc etc are very good but only when you have done a few major mods, your'll get a few extra bhp on a near on standard car.

im picking up my 2003 172 on tuesday, going to take it down to mike at rentech next week for its 24k service!!

would it be worth looking into getting the ecu flashed with the latest renualt software? what improvements would i notice? and how much would it cost? and would mike be able to do it?

The last 172 we rolling roaded with our map showed an extra 5BHP and 12lbft torque (back to back test on a v expendive Dyno!) which makes quite a large difference on the road. There is a thread related to the mapped 172 and the owner has posted up his experience of the remap.

If you need any more info let me know and i'll see what i can do. Obviousley each car will be different and we can alter the map to suit mods on the car.

The cost to a CS member is £275 for the remap. It would be totally up to you if you chose to tell your insurance. All i can say is they would have to delve fairly deep into things to find the map but if they really wanted to they could find it. Your choice

As far as i was aware i did not think they made a 1.2L 16V Clio 2 only a 8V

You can alter your fueling by tricking the sencers,it can work very well & don't cost you any thing!
Thats how dyno jet kit works on FI' jap bikes, it works!

Yes this will work by overfueling your engine. Firstly most ppl say they do experience a power boost. Secondly you will experience a large drop in economy (who cares) and lastly you will very rapidly wear your engine, dont know the details on how fast it will f**k your engine and how badly but I know it does.

Would not reccomend for most cars. Then again if your mixture is lean it could help to fix the problem. Probably best to actually fix it though.

Tbh for the extra bhp gained by a bad mod or a superchip my personal opinoin is its not worth it.

If you want to go faster buy a faster car, afterall what do you want from a 1.2 ??

because i cant afford to insure a faster car or buy one and want people to be surprized when you tell them its only a 1.2

buy a faster car is all people ever say on this place when you talk about mods, if we could all afford to have a faster car we wouldnt be driving clios
