ECU Software Upgrade, worth it

Hi guys

Using the search function and tripped over a thread about people gretting Reno to upgrade the software on their ECU to the latest version.

Two questions

Do they charge for this if you ask for it in between services?
Has anyone who has had it done noticed a difference in performance?

My car hasnt been in the dealers since delivery (12/01) as it has only done 5555 miles so is it worth me going in to see the dealer before 12000 or 12/03

The sofware changes are done at serivces, and i dont know what will happen if you ask for one. They iron out bugs rather than increase performance.
